Self-install on Internet Basic 5 with landline phone line

Does the self-install option for Internet Basic 5 work with a landline phone line? Or do you need a full install ($99) if you have a phone line?

Do the U-verse internet and the landline have to be in the exact same name? The landline is in my father's name but the U-verse would be in my name (same last name).

This is why I'm asking.I had a failed self-install that I ended up cancelling. First, U-verse was connected but landline and legacy DSL were disconnected. Then, after calls to AT&T, the landline was connected again but the U-verse was disconnected. The legacy DSL came back with the landline. Then, the legacy DSL was disconnected a few days later. The U-verse did not come back and I cancelled the U-verse. I'm thinking of trying the self-install U-verse again. Would the self-install option work now that the legacy DSL is off of the phone line. Or would the tech disconnect the landline again.

I'd prefer to do the self-install so that I could move the modem around to different phone jacks like I did with legacy DSL.

Also, it looks like the legacy DSL is still on the bill. Would they reconnect it if I asked them to? (if I decide to not sign up for U-verse)

Thanks for responding. My father wants to keep the landline so we're not interested in the VOIP. So, the install wouldn't work with the landline and the U-verse sharing the same line into the house? The U-verse worked for two days when the landline and legacy DSL were disconnected. I saw some other posts that said the tech could add the landline to the U-verse line with a jumper at the crossbox (or from the VRAD). Does the U-verse require it's own dedicated line into the house separate from the landline?

If I decide not to try U-verse again, do you think there's anyway to get the legacy DSL back since it's still on the bill?

The self-install kit came with filters. We also had the DSL filters from when the DSL legacy was working. The problem may have been because the landline (POTS) was in my father's name and the U-verse was in my name.

I'm just wondering why my thoughts recommends a tech install. Is it because there will be interference problems if the POTS and the U-verse share the same line? Or, is it very complicated to set up on the same line? Is there anyone who has both the POTS and the U-verse on the same line into the house and are able to connect the modem to any phone jack?

yes i think so as you said The problem may have been because the landline (POTS) was in my father's name and the U-verse was in my name.

and for you question i don't really have both  the POTS and the U-verse on the same line into my house so i don't know if you are able to  connect the modem to any phone jack !

I'm thinking if I transfer the POTS line to my name and sign up for the U-verse internet it may work now that the Legacy DSL is off the line. I know that my thoughts recommends the full tech install but I'm not sure why. Do the POTS and the U-verse internet both need their own separate line into the house?

You probably don't need cable or phone service. So, if you want to cut the cable cord, don't worry, you can still get internetspeed without cable or a phone line. Just contact your provider to see the standalone internet options in your area
