How do you setup a web server on the BGW210-700?

I have installed the Abyss web server on a computer and it is assigned IP 192.168.1.150 default port 80.  What do I need to do to be able to access it locally on the same LAN and remotely via the internet?  As a newbie I haven't been able to configure the ports to allow both types of access.  The articles I find all describe it in generalities.

Hi @rworner!

Thank you for reaching out to us, let us help you here! Port forwarding allows remote computers to connect to a specific computer or network, which allows you to run a web server, games server or a service of your choosing from behind a router.

To make sure that you have your settings right, please view this article on Port Forwarding to get details on set up for the BGW210-700 Router.

Let us know if you need anything else!

Re: How do you setup a web server on the BGW210-700?

I followed the port forwarding instructions.  I selected HTTP from the 'service' dropdown list and the web server from the 'needed by device' dropdown list and clicked the Add button.  The system responded with a message stating "Changes Saved" and it appears on the hosted applications list.

On the server if I navigate to 127.0.0.1 the web site default page appears.  If I use a different computer on the same subnet and type in the server IP address (192.168.1.150) the browser attempts to connect but ultimately displays a timed out message.  The same is true if I use a computer with a cellular IP address and attempt to connect to the Broadband IPv4 Address.

I restarted the router and tested again with the same results.

@rworner,

To access a home server remotely from outside of your local network, you will need to purchase and set-up a block of static IP addresses. By default, IP addresses are assigned dynamically, which means your IP address changes periodically and thus unable to allow remote access from outside. A static IP address doesn't change and does allow access from a remote location. You can read more about static IP addresses on our linked support article.

Re: How do you setup a web server on the BGW210-700?

Solved!

I went to the control panel on the server and selected 'firewall and network protection'.

Then selected 'Allow an app through firewall'.

Then selected the 'Change settings' button.

Scrolled down to Abyss Web Server and checked the checkbox in front of the name and both the private and public checkboxes after the name.

Clicked the ok button and now it is accessible for both internal on the subnet and external by broadband IP address.
