VPN Server behind Pace router - How to configure router

My old U-verse router failed, AT$T replace it with a Pace 5268AC.  Now my VPN router is not working. It has been working for 4 years with no problems.

Its in the DMZ, I have remote access to the VPN server, but can’t get VPN client to connect.

I’m in ASIA right now ! I call AT$T and after 15min they decided to connect me with a specialist, who put me on hold. …. AT$T

  1. I need a manual on the Pace 5268AC. Cant seem to find one on line!
  2. How do I set it up for remote access?
  3. How do I set it up so my VPN server to work?

HELP!

I don't know of a manual for the 5268AC on line.

I would suggest that you go into the configuration pages for the 5268AC (usually at http://192.168.1.254/ ),

  1. go into the Customize Firewall (also reached by selecting Applications, Pinholes and DMZ from the Settings tab).
  2. Select your VPN appliance from the list
  3. Check "Allow all applications (DMZplus mode)"
  4. Click Save.
  5. Enter the System Password from the sticker on the size of the 5268AC when prompted.
  6. Reboot your VPN appliance.

Let me know what happens.

I am having this same problem. My server is set up as the only device in the DMZ (and is the only device physically connected to the RG) and PPTP VPNs are still not working. I also just had the 5268AC installed today. This worked flawlessly with my previous NVG589.

Update: I had a tech come back out and swap the Pace 5268AC for an Arris NVG599. The Arris RGs support IP Passthrough as opposed to the DMZ+ nonsense in the Pace modems which is iffy at best. Everything is working great now, including incoming/outgoing VPNs. Hope this is helpful for somebody.

Didn't need to do anything for your type of VPN, if Standard PPTP for native Microsoft Windows  PPTP, no need for DMZ according to Pace VPN page. Smiley Surprised

I've always had the DMZ set up for my server, which was unrelated to this VPN problem. The Pace 5268AC definitely has a problem with tunneling GRE to a DMZ device. The Arris modems I've used (NVG589, NVG599) do not. As I stated before, nothing with my server or configuration changed - only the modem. Once I swapped out the 5268AC with the NVG599, everything started working again like it had for previous years.

Hopefully this bug is addressed in a future firmware update for other people out there stuck with the 5268AC.

Here is a link to the manual and also a pdf describing how I got my VPN to work using this router.

Let me know if it was helpful to you, I spent a lot of time trying to figure it out.

@Mark_VPN, can you please elaborate slightly on this? So are you saying to basically DMZ+ the VPN router (like so many others have discussed in other posts) to allow the ATT provided, "sticky static" address to pass to your VPN router, but with the added step of creating the "supplimental network" entry using the same static address?

Reboot your VPN appliance.

This does not work. Your process describes how to DMZ+ a router but it will not allow a VPN router to operate on a DMZ+.
