Does AT&T Uverse support 2.4ghz and 5ghz?

I was looking into getting a Wi-Fi extender and wasn't sure if it would be a good idea to get a dual band Wi-Fi extender or just a normal 2.4ghz. I might just get a dual band extender anyway in case something upgrades later down the road. But being everything runs on Wi-Fi now and some things are close to out of reach I found an extender would be useful. But I just couldn't figure out if at&t Uverse uses or supports dual band.

All of our newer Gateways use Dual Radios and Band Steering, which provides 2.4 GHZ and 5 GHZ frequencies.

You can find out more about Band Steering in our article Enhanced Wi-Fi Networking.

@kndzrsk

All reasonably current AT&T provided router/gateways for U-verse are dual band.

I get an "error" comment regarding 2.4 vs 5.0 when I connect headphones or earbuds.  It does seem to affect connections when using them.   How do I fix that?

Hi Jschultz, we'd be glad to assist you.

So that we can determine the best way to help, we need more details about your concern:

  • What are the ear buds connecting to?
  • Where are you seeing this error message?
  • What connections are being impacted?

The more information we have, the better. We recommend providing this information in your own thread, which you can create from the Internet category page. This thread is 6 years old and may be closed to further posting, which will keep us from responding to you.

We'll be awaiting your response.

AT&T gateways are dual band, they have both the 2.4GHz and 5GHz radios. The router is supposed to determine what radio your devices connect to and then "steer" your device to the correct band. Some devices are 2.4GHz only and others can use both. Depending on the gateway you have, it may have a table that indicates which band the device is connected to. Can you be a bit more specific?
