5ghz Wireless
Does Uverse has a dual band gateway/router that provides a 5ghz band in addition to the 2.4ghz band?

Yes, the newer U-verse Gateways (589, 599, 5268ac) do support 5 GHz.

@jtb_tn Bad side is many come here complaining about how the flaky 5Ghz wi-fi is. Then gets recommended a 3rd party 5Ghz router w/better coverage and total router features..
Uverse RGs, combination modem/router, designed for Uverse triple play, Uvoice, IPTV and Internet (not necessarily wi-fi). This must be used for ATT authorization and connection to ATT servers.
Many users add a 3rd party 'n or ac' 5 Ghz router behind the RG, in DMZ zone/IP Passthrough, for better wi-fi and full router features. 😉
