Hi @wmcgowen,
To connect the Netgear range extender, all you need is to access the settings and put in the U-verse WiFi information located on the sticker on the gateway.
I found these instructions on their site:
To connect the NETGEAR WiFi Extender manually:
If you have a NETGEAR WiFi Extender with an Ethernet port (EX6100, for example):
You will be prompted to enter a username and password.
Default login credentials are:
Note: Username and password are case sensitive.
If the password is not same as your Access Point (AP) password, change it so it matches your Access Point password.
If you have a NETGEAR WiFi Extender without an Ethernet port (WN1000RP, for example):
To do this, press and hold the Factory Settings button on the side panel for 7 seconds.
You will be prompted to enter a username and password.
Default login credentials are:
Hope this helps.
Thanks

IMHO, there is no way to accomplish the setup of the range extender wirelessly due to required authentication. My WAP/Router had WPS enabled, but the handshake between it and the RE was never completed because -- apparently -- the WAP was requesting a login password that was unknown (at the time) to the RE.
THE most important aspect of the installation was mentioned above:
"Use a computer to connect to (the) NETGEAR WiFi Extender via Ethernet cable."
Further clarification: What you need to do is get an Ethernet cable and plug it into a computer and into the Range Extender. Next, plug the RE into an AC power outlet to power it on. Once the POWER LED glows green, THEN you can log into the local "website" at mywifiext.net and complete the range extender setup using the process explained in the device's installation manual (page 9 for my AC750 WiFi Range Extender).
Take it from a tech writer, that one statement above would have saved me several hours of frustration and turned this into a 15-minute installation end-to-end.
