Upgrading AT&T Uverse modem/Routers

AT&T Forum

I'll post my question to the community because after129 minutes of working with AT&T tecnical support

I got no where.

Bottom line is I want to take advantage of my laptops 802.11N wireless band capabilities.  I currently have an AT&T model 3801HGV modem/router which is not N band capable.  AT&T sells an upgraded modem/router the PACE  DSL Gateway Model 4111N.  Is it simple a case of replaceing Modem/Routers?  Or would I also need to increase my banbwidth too? I presently am under the 12 Mbps plan.

Hello Reichmaj,

My name is Morgan, I'm one of the U-verse Community Specialists. I appreciate you providing detailed info on your equipment. You are correct, recently AT&T released new gateway models that support wireless 802.11N. The 3801HGV is typically used to support all 3 U-verse services but, if you don't have U-verse TV service then it's possible that we could swap out the 2Wire/Pace 3801 unit for a 2Wire/Pace 5301NV Gateway which also supports the wireless 802.11N. I'm going to send you a private message that will land in your inbox and we will move forward from there. Thank you! Smiley Happy

my thoughts

Well at least you email was the most informative.  I'm still unable to get anywhere with AT&T technical support.

Allow me to rephrase my question - if i wanted to take advantage of the 802.11N protocol capabilities of my home laptops what AT&T service and modem/router should I have.  No TV necessary only VOIP and internet.

This is probably the wrong thread for this but I need help.

I have a 3801hgv gateway and i have two Xbox 360s connected to it and only one gets a open nat while the other is always on strict. This occurs when they are both in use.

How can i remedy this issue and will setting up a router behind this gateway help me out?

Thanks.. any specific router that i should get? I'd have to assume that i'll need one that will support multiple xboxes?
