Trouble setting up a 3rd party router

Hello all,

I'm having trouble setting up a  third party router behind my 5268AC gateway. We have several wireless computers that are far enough away from the gateway that I decided to add a higher powered router to the setup (Linksys MAX-STREAM). Ping in online games was also fluxuating between 50ms (normal) and 300ms spikes. I thought this could be due to the quality of the internal wifi radios. At any rate, the new router was okay for a little while (not any better ping though), and then it got very bad, where Discord/games disconnect very frequently, and the ping is much worse than before. Wifi connected computers also fall off the network frequently. I don't think it's the machines we're using, they're all running updated Win10 and all devices have the newest drivers (and wifi dongles are mostly USB 3.0 AC1900). I think something in my settings is off. Here is what I have it set to:

5268AC: Hardwired to Linksys internet connection. Wifi radios off. Linksys router set to DMZ+. Static IP of 192.168.1.254 and IP pool of 192.168.1.2-51. DHCP 192.168.1.0 / 255.255.255.0 (default). IPV6 off.

Linksys: Static IP of 192.168.2.1. IP pool of 192.168.2.2-50. Set to Automatic Configuration - DHCP.

This worked for about a day--but now it is even more unstable than before I added the router.

Before, I had tried setting the 5268AC to have a single DHCP address, and set the Linksys to use that as its static WAN IP, and the default gateway IP to be that of the 5268AC. This was all according to internet suggestions. That didn't work--the connection was very, very unstable.

AT&T maintains that the gateway itself is operating normally, and I feel like it is too. I just have some settings wrong I think. Are there DHCP address conflicts or something similar? Any help would be much appreciated.

Hello @usinjin

Welcome to the AT&T forums, let's get your issue addressed. We have a forums thread on setting up your third party devices.
Let us know if that helps with setting up your router.

Thanks, though I have exhausted these steps, to no avail. I have tried quite a few different configurations, still having serious connectivity issues.

Thank you for your response, @usinjin.

We recommend doing a factory reset on your Gateway, then reconfiguring the network settings for DMZ+ in order to clear any settings that may be causing issues. You can find the steps for setting up DMZ+ at the bottom of the "Manual" section in this article.

Keep in mind that your 3rd party equipment will need to be configured to receive an IP through DHCP. If you haven't purchased a block of Static IP's from us, we don't recommend utilizing any Static IP settings, and it may be a good idea to factory reset your Linksys equipment as well.

Once you have DMZ+ set back up, we have an article detailing a workaround for a known issue with our Pace 5268AC while in DMZ+ mode that will impact speed and connectivity, and we recommend using this workaround for the best experience in DMZ+ mode.

We hope this helps.

Thank you, this gives me more information. Setting the external router to operate in DMZ+ mode from the gateway was one of the first steps I took. I have my gateway set to DHCP but the router is set to static IP. You're saying this will not work? Won't there be DHCP conflicts otherwise? Perhaps this is what the second article you linked me addresses. I will try this and report back.

Unfortunately that didn't work. Opening all UDP ports worked fine, but I could not open the TCP ports due to conflicts with the remaining devices (including CISCO_AP_ATT for the wireless receivers). Is there an alternate method? Should I set the gateway to cascade the router?

Hello @usinjin,

As you mentioned, try setting the gateway to cascade the router to see if that helps.
When following the mentioned steps, have you also refreshed every device on your network?
Doing so may solve the issue, as sometimes the devices need to be flushed.
Please let us know the results after.
