ROUTER HOMEPAGE
Is there a way I can turn off my router but keep the modem? Can I do it from my router homepage? The router I own is a far separated (technically) from the Uverse router, I just want to safeguard it from any future conflicts, and the reason it's necessary is that mine serves as a backup and router. It alone need to work as my router.

The basic answer to your question is NO.
I have my router plugged into the Ethernet of the AT&T 5268ac and run all my devices off of my router. The only other thing I have plugged into the Ethernet of the AT&T 5268ac is the AT&T DVR. I have also disabled the WiFi on the AT&T 5268ac.

I also disabled the wi-fi on that. I used the Utility software of my router. I just thought I would try the other way as well, but thanks for your input.
