OLD Device removal from WiFi

After logging into my router using the given IP address, how do I remove old devices, shown as Inactive, ( phones, tablets, laptops, etc) from the wifi device listings?

Isn't there a clear/rescan button for the device list?  Just try rebooting the gateway (pull plug for 15 secs. and let it fully reboot).  Or factory reset (push red button in the back for about 15 secs.) but if you do the factory reset any changes you made to the gateway will be lost.

Hello @cajunfla1!

It looks like you have a Motorola gateway. If that is the case, you can clear the list by logging into your gateway at http://192.168.1.254, going to device list, and selecting clear and rescan for devices." If there are devices still showing up, they are still connected to your gateway and you will want to disconnect them if you do not want them to be on there. You may need to change the wireless password if unauthorized devices are connecting wireless.

Good morning @cajunfla1!

Welcome to the Community Forums!  I am more than happy to provide the following information on how to disconnect old devices from your Wi-Fi.

You can disconnect these devices in the router control panel as follows:

  • Open your browser and enter the IP address of the control panel login page for the network user. The IP address used for accessing the router varies by manufacturer. Please refer to the user guide or manual.
  • Enter the administrator Username and Password for the network router. If you did not change the default password, you can find the login credentials in the router user guide or manual.
  • Click the Attached Devices, Connected Devices, Status or other similarly named link or tab in the router control panel. A list of connected computer, smartphones and other Wi-Fi capable devices will appear in the list.
  • Locate and click the network computer name of the computer  or device you want to disconnect. Click the Ban, Disconnect or other similar link or button to disconnect the computer from the Wi-Fi network.

If you would like to connect devices to your home Wi-Fi, we have a great eSupport article which will give you step by step instructions on how to do so.

Hope this helps!

Have an amazing day!

Did a reboot yesterday.  All the old devices still there.   No clear/rescan button available.  I'll try a reset later.  Thanks for the help!

So I'm curious.  How is ATTCares suggestion about using the clear and rescan different from my suggestion of the same thing when you said you don't have that button?  Or was it only that you actually had all those devices connected and you only needed to physically disconnect them?

Sorry Ace, I focused on your suggestion of rebooting, and didn't dig deep enough/click enough places to find the clear button.  And NO, all those devices were not still connected.  They mostly were old devices we no longer own and had traded in for updated ones, or gave away to our grandkids.
