NVG510 all lights green no conection

Greetings.

Having a problem now with our NVG510. Have not had any problems for alomst 2 years. On the 6mb service since funds are very limited. But, it started last week, All the lights are green, but, could not go any where. I read many having "similar" problems, however, none of what was preposed to fix or temp fix helped me what so ever. I am not new to this stuff by any means. I know I have old phone lines here, but, this is a big apartment building and I am not willing to shell out money to replace a line. Although, I have always gotten good connection even with those old lines. My download and upload speeds have always been just a tad over the service spes.. So I know I am not having line problems of such.

When the connection drops, the lights STAY solid green. I checked my router, but, it is working just fine, no problems with it. I moved mt computer cat5 to just the modem and yea, its there. Could not even reach the modems login page. To solve, temp, I have to unplug it from the power, wait a few seconds and plug it back in then once it reboots, its fine untill the connection drops once again. Happens about twice a day now. Was once a day.

When it reboots, I did go into diagnostic and of course, every thing checked out fine. "Naturally"

So, replace the modem at my own expence??? Not a rent type, HAD to buy the thing... If I have to buy another one, I will move to COX.. Have had COX before some timeback and no problems. Moved here, funds limited so had to settle for AT&T. As mentioned above, worked just fine for almost 2 years. Whats the deal people? Is this NVG510 a piece of cheap crud or what???

Hi @deployer,

I apologize about the issues you are having with your modem, but I will be glad to help. One thing to try is trying to factory reset the NVG510 by holding the red reset button on the back of the modem for at least 10 seconds. Also, clear the cache and cookies on your internet browser.

Let us know how it goes.

Hi @deployer,

Thank you for that information. It seems like everything was able to connect back just fine. Are you still noticing problems on your end?

Hi David, or whom ever is reading this

As for unplugging and replugging the modem, it always works just fine for
a while. Then after a few hours it drops again.
As mentioned, it is not browser cache, bad connections or any thing else as
I have tested them all and have done factory resets several times to both
modem and my router. And, as I mentioned in my original post, it shows no
problems in the diagnostics report, since it had to be rebooted in order to
even get to the login page of the modem.

And yes, it still drops. Had to reboot it three times today by unplugging
it and plugging it back in.

What is the warranty on these modems, as I really do not want to shell out
another 100 dollars to replace one that is only about 2 years old, least
that is about how long I had it. It may have been used before, I don't
know...

Any help on this would be much appreciated.

Hi @deployer,

I can definitely look into that for you. We will send you a private message to gather more information. Also, when you lose connection, are you able to unplug your router and just do a direct connection the our router and get connected?

David,

Yes, I have done a direct connect several times testing which unit may be
at fault. Same results, loses connection and all lights are green. AGain,
unplug the modem and plug it back in and it works for a few hours.

David. Thanks for all the help, however, the new modem came in, I set it up EXACTLY like the old one, but, it woulld NOT detect my router. Yes, I triple checked ALL setting to be sure they were correct from the old one to the new one. All changable settings were exactly the same. Reset both modem and my router, restarted them both numerous times. Checked setting on both several times, again, to no availe.

I hooked up the old modem again and it works fine, untill it disconnects again. But, it sees my router just fine and lets the computers passthrough the router to the net. As stated, with the old one, things are good.

However, I did notice one diferance between the old modem and the new one.

the differance is in the Broadband status page. IE:

the list below shows the Broadband IPv4 Address are different between the two modems and this is what I think is causing my problem. But, I see no way to change the new IP to the old one to make it work.  Any ideas????

Hi @deployer,

I apologize about the connection issues. When it comes to the public IP address, it is not static unless you purchase them, but it should not make a difference on the connection unless you have it statically configured in your router. Are you able to connect online with a computer directly connected toe the U-verse router?

If so, then there may be some settings that are not correct on your router. Make sure the subnet and default gateway are the same as the DHCP pool in your router.

Hi David

Yes, connecting directly from my computer to the new modem I can access
internet and the modems GUI..
As for the router, nothing was changed at all. I set up the new one to
match the old modem identically, however, it would not see the router MAC
address. With all setting the same as the old modem it should have worked
fine. But, as mentioned it does not and the only difference I saw between
the old and new modem was that one IP address. When I tried to change that
IP into the router, the router gave me a subnet mask error and would not
accept that IP since it had a different address to it than the one below it.

IE: Broadband IPv4 Address (old modem) 108.243.*120*.82
Broadband IPv4 Address (NEW modem) 108.243.*121*.16

Gateway IPv4 Address 108.243.120.1 (was the same for both old and new
modem.

The IPs given to the router were the old modems IE: 108.243.120.82 &
108.243.120.1

As mentioned, the router would not accept the ip of 108.243.*121*.16
because of the "*121*"

the subnet mask on the router is 255.255.255.0

And in the Device list on the old modem it lists the router as the only
connected device, which is correct.
In the new modem, the router, as stated before, does NOT show up, only my
computer shows up when it is directly connected to the new modem.

I have tried every thing I can think of to get the new modem to work like
the old one, but, to no avail.. That is why I reconnected the old one back
up for now.

If you can think of some thing I have not tried, please let me know as I
would like to get the new modem working as it should like the old one.

thanks David

PS, I did try to use obtain ip from Get Dynamically From ISP, (router setting) but that didnt work either.

Also, wondering why the old modem always shows "108.243.120.82" in the broadband IP4 address, but the new one always show "108.243.121.16"  hmmm.
