How can I make this device just a modem? I have a google wifi system at the house and don't want to use this device AT&T gave me as a Router.

If you want to use att internet you have to use their modem (gateway). There's nothing stopping you however from turning its wifi off and cascading your "google wifi system" device to the gateway via one of it's ethernet connections.
