How to change NAT type on an AT&T U-verse wifi router

So, my NAT type is currently type 3. I play on the PS4, and this is affecting what i can do online. I cant connect with friends, unless there are 4 of us total all doing the same thing. Otherwise it just blocks them out with a NAT type error. I know that type 3 is bad for gaming because it heavily restricts connection with other things, and thats why im here. Can somebody please tell me how to change my NAT type from 3 to less restrictive types like 1 or 2? Ive already tried plenty of things to alter it, and im pretty sure that it has to do with my router.

Additional info:

My ps4 is connected wirelessly, I don't know if directly attatching it with a cable would help or not.

My internet speed settles at around 3mbs per second, according to the PS4 connection status.

I live in a relatively remote area, but I still get a good signal speed overall.

In my router settings, it says that my PS4 has very poor signal strength, but it is actually very close to the router.

If I did not include enough info, please ask. I appreciate any feedback and help that i can get. Thanks!

Hi @YEARGH_5757,

Thank you for reaching out to us! I understand your concern with your NAT type not being at the recommended level for your game system. It would be my pleasure to assist you with this.

The NAT type of your router refers to how your router treats incoming data and how it is viewed in a public domain from a private translation. To be able to change your NAT type, we would need to open up ports specific to the console’s needs. This will open up “conversation” between the two endpoints. Once you have the information from the console’s maker, all you will need to do is set up Port Forwarding on your gateway

Let us know how well this works for you!

Hey! I appreciate the help. I have looked over the link, and I have attempted to follow the instructions provided. However, i have run into a problem. My router is a U-verse router, as stated. But it is also a pace model 5268AC FXN... This is an available option in the port forwarding help, but it includes an option that my router settings does not have. It specifies to go to settings> firewall> applications, pinholes, and DMZ. When i go into my router settings, instead of applications, pinholes, and DMZ, it is replaced with "firewall rules".

What "firewall rules" includes (for reference)

It allows me to make my own user defined firewall rule.

The rule includes the type (input or output), the source, the destination, the port range, the protocol, abd the action (allow or deny).

This page includes instructions, but I honestly dont know that any of it means, even with hours of personal research. I also dont know if this even has anything to do with my issue.

Maybie my router setrings has an update and the help page is outdated? I dont know.

If you would be so kind, please further help me with my problem! I really appreciate the help.

Edit: never mind. I have found other people with the exact same problem, and they said that they just got a motorola router, which is what im attempting to do. So, thanks anyways! Keep up the good work!
