How do I connect a router, printer and other devices to my AT&T U-verse gateway - Information from the AT&T Community

Learn how to set up your printer, router, and other devices

Most devices are compatible with AT&T's Internet Modems and normally do not require any additional steps besides connecting the devices.

Please note, AT&T does not support 3rd Party Setups or troubleshooting

First thing

Follow the device setup instructions that come with the device you are attempting to set up. This is our first recommendation as our teams are not familiar with every piece of technology out there. If you have trouble:

Reach out to the community

Most companies like Playstation, Linksys, Netgear, Cannon, and other manufacturers have a forums community like AT&T. They have experts that can help answer questions related to their products.

Check their support sites

Like AT&T, many manufacturers have device tutorials and product knowledge support pages. If you having trouble, search their pages for tips and instructions.

Connect your Device (Basic Setup)

  1. Connect the Ethernet cable from the internet port on your router to a yellow Ethernet port on the AT&T gateway.

  2. Disable the wireless on the AT&T gateway if your device is going to have a wireless broadcast, also (this will keep the 2 devices from interfering with each other). To do so, access the AT&T gateway settings by going to http://192.168.1.254. Go into the wireless settings and disable it.

  3. Make sure your router is not on the same subnet as the AT&T gateway. This can lead to IP address conflicts. By default, the AT&T gateway is set to 192.168.1.x.

We have put together basic resources to help you set up certain devices. Please note, we do not support the setup of 3rd party devices. If you need assistance or are not familiar with the technology you are using, contact the manufacturer or check online discussion boards.

Troubleshooting

  1. If you are not able to connect online, test to make sure the Ethernet connection works. Connect another device, such as a laptop, to see if that device can get online. If it can, troubleshoot your router. If not, check to make sure the Ethernet cable is good. Try a different Ethernet port.

  2. Remove any devices connected to your gateway and your device. Sometimes 3rd party devices cause issues with the connection. After getting everything working, reconnect all the devices.

  3. Reboot or Reset your devices. Try rebooting the devices first. You should be able to do so by unplugging the power and plugging it back. If the reboot does not work, try resetting the devices.

  4. Check the site or manual for your device to see if there are any additional steps or configurations needed to connect.

Advance Settings

  1. After connecting to the internet, some programs or applications may not work or may show issues and require ports to be opened.

  2. After opening the ports on our gateway, you will still need to open the ports on your router to that device.

  3. If you wish to open all the ports to your device, you can set your device in passthrough or DMZ Plus mode. Select your gateway below for instructions on how to do this:

I have uverse with AT&T installed BFW210-700 modem.  AT&T would only install one wireless device to confirm wireless connection and installation was working.  We were told to connect our wireless printer thru the set-up menu on printer OR use the Ethernet cable from the wireless printer to connect to open port on modem.  For 2nd printer.....a USB printer, we were told to use the USB cable from the wired printer and use open USB port on the modem to connect.

Neither of those work.  Modem manufacturer sent us back to AT&T.  AT&T requires a support service agreement to assist for $180 per year.

There must be a simple 'fix' for this issue but I cannot find it.

I bought an XShuai robot vacuum. I am having trouble connecting it to my network via the WeBack app. Itsays connection failed and lists these possible causes:

1.Incorrect password or id

2. Handset unable to switch network

3. Incorrect device model entered

4. WLAN configured not 2.4G network

How do I fix the problem?

Hello,I am considering a home security system with  self set up and monitoring. This might be dumb, but if it's by ethernet cable  can I simply  connect that to att uverse box and done? Or its more  complicated?? Thanks

Many other forums say your gateway, or full setup, isn’t compatible with new X phone series so some aren’t able to use WiFi in home on their phones and w/out an unlimited data phone plan, it’s a big deal.
