DSL convert to Wifi hotspot

We have two phone lines into our home, one is the main phone line, with long distance and all the frills, the second is a no frills line with DSL service.   Due to DSL service always being down, the service tech suggested I check into a ATT Wifi hotspot, which I did, and have now installed, works great.  We are having the main phone line NUMBER ported to the Wifi hotspot, will ATT automatically terminate the DSL service on the second phone line?   We want to keep the phone line active for our fax machine, but no longer need the DSL service.

Hello @golfer49!

We'd like to advise that transferring a landline phone number to your AT&T Wireless Internet device can take about four (4) days. While outgoing calls can be made immediately using your AT&T Wireless Internet device; however, incoming calls (including 911) may encounter some issues considering the process is ongoing and will continue through your old service until the transfer is complete. Keep a phone connected to your wall jack or prior service to continue to receive incoming calls until the transfer is complete. To check the status of your transfer, visit https://soc.att.com/2VBbtrX.

We hope this info helps!

Hi, @golfer49.

You can request for your secondary line to remain open while porting your main number over to your hot spot. The secondary line should remain open as long as you do not request the service to be cancelled.

For the best assistance with Landline and DSL services, please reach out to customer service at 800-288-2020, as online support is limited.

Hello @golfer49,

We can definitely take a closer look into why you cannot receive incoming calls from landlines. We'll need some more details in order for us to better assist you. Which AT&T Wi-Fi Hotspot device are you experiencing this issue with? Is this happening with all incoming callers who are calling you from a landline? If so, how many phone calls have you missed from landline callers, and what happens on their end when they try to call you? Also, how long has this been going on? Please let us know. We look forward to hearing back from you.

Thanks for the quick answer.........we got home from the AT&T store about 1030am on Saturday the 5th of January, I set up the hotspot, and it booted up and went right onto the internet with no issue.  I hooked up the phone system to the hotspot 8306 and was able to call anyone on any type of phone.  I used my cell phone 6025 and tried to call the hotspot with the number that had been supposedly ( 8306) ported to it, and the phone rang with no issue.........I then picked up my second land line phone, 8720 and tried to call the hotspot 8306, you can hear it ringing, but it does not ring here in the house as it should.  Did some testing with friends in other locations, if they use a cellphone and call 8306, we GET the call, if they use a landline to call us, the call is missed.   If you want try calling 8306, you will hear ringing but no one will answer?   If you call the 8720 number, and I am close I will hear it ring and answer.  If you call my cell phone 6025, I will answer as I carry it.............also, we have DSL on the 8720 line which we would like disconnected, but we want to keep the landline for my fax machine.   My wife missed all of the calls from her out of state family over the last weekend, until we figured out we could not receive landline calls...............?  Help,  Thanks
