Why do some devices connect to wifi extender when others connect to Modem?

Working thru signal issues. Why do some devices connect to wifi extender nd others connect to Modem? Does the channel have something to do with it? 

 

Part 2. I have uverse tv. 4 wireless and 1 wired. But when I look at internet health it shows 6 wireless bridge and 5 set top box.?

Usually devices will connect to SSID with the best strongest signal. However, these things are not perfect so they may do the opposite at times. You can use our Smart Home Manager to check signal strength around your home to determine which device you should be connected to.

 

As for the TV receiver portion, Total Home DVR requires a wireless bridge so that the DVR content can be shared between all receivers. However, the receivers also count as bridges. So it would be 5 set top boxes plus 1 bridge.
