BGW210-700 IP Passthrough with AT&T VoIP Phone and DirecTV Services

We have the Arris BGW210-700 UVerse gateway being used for an AT&T VoIP phone, as backbone by DirecTV service + wireless bridge for the genie/minis, and for VDSL broadband internet (only home wifi, no ethernet connections).

Since we need WPA2-AES security (and the BGW210 only provides WPA2-TKIP), we have to get an external TP-Link AC1750 router behind UVerse RG. Thus, we have to configure the BGW210-700 in 'IP Passthrough' mode and disable its WiFi part .... without impacting VoIP or DirecTV. Any special considerations? Will the 'IP passthrough' to the external router mess with the VoIP phone or the DirecTV home service?

Thanks in advance.

Hi @dhsmusic,

Follow the steps described in the support site. Keep VoIP and DirecTV connected to the gateway.

Hi @eulffe,

We will be happy to put some light on the subject!

The Arris BGW210-700 is an advanced residential gateway that supports VoIP, IPv6, video delivery, security firewall, and extensive remote management features.

The BGW210-700 Broadband Gateway delivers robust video, primary line telephone, and high-speed data over broadband networks via high-speed Internet connectivity.

It is designed for advanced DSL network service deployments and supports Quality of Service (QoS) and IP Passthrough.   AT&T supported CPE device terminates the DSL, authenticates with the network (Receives a WAN IP) and shares that IP address with a single device connected to the AT&T supported CPE equipment. It will not impact your VoIP phone or DirecTV services.

If you have any additional concerns, please feel free to reach out to us. Thank you for being an AT&T customer.

Hi Lafayette,

Thanks for the quick response. Yes, that was exactly my concern... that, after the IP passthrough, I'd have to -somehow-connect the VoIP phone and DirecTV link to the external router rather than the RG.

I'll proceed with that configuration and get back to the forum with the result.
