How do I know if I need to upgrade to 7.1 mail?

I got an email that says my account will be permanently closed if I don't.

some of your online help refers to getting mail through apps.  How do I know if I am using an app?  I don't know what that means. 

my email address is [edited for privacy-please do not post personal or unique information such as but not limited to full names, employee ID numbers, email addresses, phone numbers, account numbers, etc.]

That's phishing.  Don't click anything and just trash it.
