How do I unmerge AT&T and Yahoo email accounts?

Split.png

You may have been notified that your E-mail account is about to get unmerged. You may have had a merged account where your AT&T E-mail and Yahoo E-mail were merged into a single account, which allowed the password and inboxes to be shared.

If you are not sure if you have a merged account, it is likely you have one if:

  • You can sign in to your merged E-mail account using either you AT&T or your Yahoo E-mail address.
  • You can sign in to myA&T with either your AT&T or Yahoo E-mail addresses.
  • You use the same password for both AT&T and Yahoo E-mail accounts.
  • Your mailbox receives messages from both your AT&T and Yahoo E-mail address.
  • When you reset the password, it changes the password on both Yahoo and AT&T accounts.
  • When trying to reset your Yahoo password, it redirects you to myAT&T.

What is Happening?
Beginning mid-November 2017, you will no longer be able to sign in to myAT&T or att.net with your Yahoo ID.
Beginning early December 2017, all merged email accounts will be separated into two separate email accounts.

What does this mean to you?

Beginning in mid-November 2017, you will need to start using your AT&T email address to sign in to myAT&T instead of your Yahoo email address.

  • To access your AT&T account in myAT&T, you’ll need to sign in using your AT&T email address. (Don’t worry, we’ll tell you what it is if you try to sign in with your Yahoo email address.)
  • To access your AT&T email account through att.net, you’ll need to use your AT&T email address through currently.att.yahoo.com and clicking on the mail icon at the top. (Again, we’ll tell you what it is if you try to sign in with your Yahoo email address.)

You’ll need to start signing in to your AT&T and Yahoo email accounts separately since you will now have two unique accounts.

  • The passwords will not change until you decide to change them.
  • Your AT&T E-mail account will be empty. This includes E-mails, contacts, calendar, information associated with Yahoo sites (Yahoo Sports, Yahoo Groups, Tumblr, finance portfolios). All of this information will be on your Yahoo E-mail account.
  • Your Yahoo E-mail password can be managed through the Yahoo Member Center.

What about my Sub-accounts?

  • All Yahoo accounts will become stand alone accounts.
  • Just like the parent accounts, any subaccounts that were linked to a yahoo account, the AT&T E-mail account will be empty and all the E-mails, contacts, and other things will be stay with the Yahoo account.
  • The AT&T subaccounts will still be subaccounts under the primary AT&T E-mail account.

What about my E-mails, Contacts, and Folders

  • Your E-mails, Contacts, and Folders for your merged accounts will be available when you login with your YahooID.
  • For your Yahoo E-mail, Contacts, and Folder issues, please reach out to Yahoo.
    • If you are getting an AT&T error message or not seeing your E-mails, Contacts, or Folders, such as a terminated account, try clearing your cache and cookies or using a different browser. Make sure you are logging in with your @yahoo.com account at mail.yahoo.com.
    • You can reset your password by selecting forgot password.
    • If you are missing E-mails, you can recover your E-mail at this site.

Not able to Sign In

  • Yahoo E-mail - Please contact Yahoo, as we no longer have access to Yahoo accounts.
  • AT&T - Getting incorrect password? Go to our help article to get back into your account.
    • Suspended / Inactive / Error 550.5.2.1 - Accounts were disabled from inactivity during the unmerge. To fix this, try to sign in and after 48 hours, your E-mail account will become active again.
    • Getting redirected to Yahoo site - Clear your cache and cookies or try using a different browser. Make sure you are logging into the right site. Go to currently.com and click on the mail icon at the top-right.

above items disappeared after at&t separated from Yahoo.  All remedies posted here do not effect a change.  How do I resurrect my contacts and email folders?

OK like everybody else with this issue, I have spent about 10 hours trying to figure out where my Yahoo mail folders have all gone.  I ran across this forum, read the above message about the "un-merging of the Yahoo and AT&T" accounts and the solution finally occurred to me.  I have been using a swbell.net account for over 20 years.  I recall that when Southwestern Bell acquired Yahoo (or however it happened) the email address was changed to "userid@yahoo.com"  I chose to keep my "userid@swbell.net" account and completely ignored the whole thing.  Everything worked as it always had.  Now that they are unmerged, it dawned on me that just maybe, I should try to login to "userid@yahoo.com" instead.  Voila!! It worked!!  All of my folders and old email are sitting in a yahoo.com account that I have never consciously used.  The latest emails in the inbox appear to be 12-31-2017 which corresponds to when the accounts were supposed to be "un-merged".  So if you can't find your folders and old emails, try using the user id part of your swbell.net address but append the yahoo.com domain onto it.  Use your swbell.net password.  It worked for me.  Now the only problem is how to continue using the yahoo.com account with my old swbell.net address.  Just checking quickly, I don't think it is possible, but at least the emails are safe until I figure out how to back them up and restore into another account.  I hope this helps someone else.

Hi @ghostrecon,

Your email contacts and folders are now in your Yahoo account. This article explains what happened. You do have the ability to export your contacts

I do not currently have AT&T, but have Frontier. My Yahoo email account no longer provides my folders, or emails going back prior to December of 2017. I read there would be no change to my account when I googled and found these 2 had merged. I called for assistance, they advised to go onto Yahoo.mail, but brings me to the AT&T/Yahoo account once again. How do I go about getting back to the old Yahoo account with all my information.

Thank you

All of my old emails in sbcglobal.net are gone. Whenever I sign in using start.att.net to access my email, it is automatically re-directed to yahoo. If it is already unmerged, why it is re-directing it to yahoo. Please provide solutions. I tried using different browsers (Chrome and IE) but still no luck.

Hello, About a week or so ago, I received a prompt to update the view of my email client. Since then I have not been able to see/access any of my folders - which contain lots of data on my iPhone or my work PC.  I was not to concerned because in the evening I could access/view from my personal PC. Since Friday I have not been able to access/view on any device and am really concerned.  When I search for emails, that I know I have in a folder, on my iPhone, the header displays but no data.  Any reco's for getting my views back?

My emails have been lost and all my folders due to this AT&T and Yahoo issue.  I have spent days and many hours trying to get help from AT&T using "chat" and also the phone.  I get told the same thing over and over....."We will get this resolved.  Don't worry.  We'll get your emails back.  We'll "escalate" your case to the highest level to get it immediately taken care of".  Yeah-Yeah-Yeah.  NOTHING happens.  Empty promises!!!  Since I don't have an AT&T account and using an @sbcglobal.net email account we've had for YEARS, AT&T wants to charge me either a one time $49 fee or $15 monthly service.  I don't want your "service" and feel my emails are being held hostage and being forced to pay to get them.  They have the WORST customer service and either pass you off to someone else or give you empty promises.  It's ridiculous and surprised there isn't a class action lawsuit being started!   I simply WANT MY LOST EMAILS THAT I KNOW ARE SOMEWHERE FLOATING IN SPACE!!!!  And don't suggest that Yahoo recovery email link...I'VE DONE THAT 4 TIMES!

My contacts are no longer listed. I just get an import page when I click on Contacts, but there's no place for me to import them from. When I try to compose an e-mail to a contact group the e-mails for the group are listed, but they are not listed in the contact area so I can't add or subtract from them. I was told when I talked to a tech rep two weeks ago that they would be put back in the contact column in therr or four days but it hasn't happened.
