SBCGLOBAL.NET MAIL SETTINGS HELP Please.

The last 3 months having problems with my AT&T -- YAHOO sbcglobal.net account, Seems at&t yahoo split up and now my account works for 3 or 4 days then doesn't work for 3 or for 4 days. Just weird. I am using win10 and outlook 2016 also settings for POP3, I have used Imap and every thing else I can think of but the Pop3 settings have worked for the last 5 days until today. I can receive emails but out bound mail gets stuck. the error message below doesn't make sense because I have it set up to use the same server settings as the incoming server which works? and I have it set up with POP3 settings using inbound.att.net and outbound.att.net which work for days at a time. Can anyone help me get my mail working? Thank You.

ERROR MESSAGE after click send email

Task '@sbcglobal.net  - Sending' reported error (0x80042109) : 'Outlook cannot connect to your outgoing (SMTP) email server. If you continue to receive this message, contact your server administrator or Internet service provider (ISP).'

Hello @greentom,

Your incoming server settings should be set to imap.mail.att.net, while your outbound will be set as smtp.mail.att.net. For more information on setting these up in your outlook check out our Email Troubleshooting support article. Let us know if you have any further questions.

As of April 2, 2020, smtp settings no longer work. I can still receive email, but not send.

Nothing online (suggested Imap *smtp setting) has resolved this issue. Unable to reach anyone via 800-201-6684 nor locate any email contact. This is my last resort or just bail on sbcglobal.net/att.

*smtp.mail.att.net (my original was smtp.mail.yahoo.com)

Try using a secure mail key in place of your password in your email client(s).  Read this (which includes a link to how to create a secure mail key).

IMAP doesn't work when click repair immediately says SOMETING WENT WRONG, if I use pop2 it says SETTING THINGS UP FOR 30 sec before it says something went wrong. Secure mail key doesn't wort either immediately says SOMETHING WENT WRONG when click repair. Then defaults back to original password when I go back to retry. Thanks

Can you change your account password.  I am not suggesting you use it in place of the secure mail key but change the account password anyhow (Forgot ID/Password) if that is possible.  For legacy accounts like yours sometimes (not always) changing the account password fixes account email login problems for some of these users.  Indeed, I forgot to ask, can you even log into the webmail with your account and password?  If not, can you after changing the password?

I finally got my password updated, and signed into My AT&T account just fine. Then used the IMAP settings and got the below error message. So I Tried the POP3 got the same error message, Tried using My secure password with both IMAP AND POP3 and got the same error message. This doesn't make sense since yesterday using POP3 settings at least mail was coming in but not out. That Error message was CAN NOT CONNECT TO OUTGING SERVER. But I had it set up to use the same settings as the INCOMONG SERVER?????
Well I am giving up until tomorrow at least I can go on line and get email, but it has changed to YAHOO MAIL. Was AT&T YAHOO MAIL, but I had had to update my password TODAY to get into it. None of this makes any sense to me. THANK YOU FOR ALL YOUR TIME AND TROUBLE.

Hi, @greentom.

Have you reviewed all of the Outlook settings to make sure nothing was changed for some reason or another? That error typically means the server information was entered incorrectly or you are having internet connection issues.

Let us know if this helps, so we know how to proceed.

Nothing worked yesterday error message said couldn't find Server on network. Today it is working it is even sending email. It has got to be MS is doing something with their servers. It will probably work for a couple of days and then quit again. Oh well thanks for all your help.

Thanks for letting us know that it's back up and running, @greentom!

While we know it is convenient to use services such as Microsoft Outlook, AT&T does recommend that you access att.net for the best experience with your emails. We hope that you don't run into any more issues, and if you need any further assistance, let us know.
