How to report an extortion email?

I discovered in my Spam folder an email sent from my email @att.net to my same email account,  stating "I hacked your device and then got access to all your accounts...including your .....@att.net".  There is an attempt at blackmail or extortion and asks for money.  I changed my password to my att (Yahoo mail acct).  Is there anything I should do?  Is there any way to report this to authorities?  To whom?

You weren't hacked so ignore what ATTCares said.  That extortion email has been floating around in various email services for some time now, not just att's.  I got one too a few months ago.  What do you do about it?  Treat it like any other spam or phishing email.  In other words, nothing.  Just trash it.
