If I cancel my AT&T account will I lose my email address?

A common question we are asked is, "Can I keep my email if I cancel my service." The Answer: Yes you can!

What To Know

If you cancel your AT&T Internet account, you will still have access to your account as long as your account is in good standing. If there is a balance owed on the AT&T internet account, you will lose access to the email until it is resolved. To verify your canceled AT&T Internet account is in good standing, chat with us. If you break terms and conditions, the email will be deactivated.

Helpful Tips!

  • Security Questions - when you cancel your services, you no longer have the ability to reset your email at att.com. It is highly recommended you set up security questions before you cancel - it makes it easier to reset passwords if you forget it!
  • Merged Email Addresses - If your Yahoo email is tied to your att.net email, you do have the option to unmerge it. The att.net email is deleted when you unmerge the account. You must process the request within 30 days of cancellation.
  • Tie your email to your mobile account - this will help with password resets in the future

To Unmerge the account, follow the steps below.

  1. Go to myAT&T, and log in with your AT&T Member ID and password.
  2. Select Profile > Update My Profile.
  3. Under AT&T Email Accounts, select Account Profile.
  4. Next to Member ID, select Delete Account.
  5. Select OK to confirm.
  6. Confirm that the Status at the bottom of the User Information section now reads Disabled. Your email account has been deleted.
  7. To continue using your Yahoo email, sign in to Yahoo mail. Select the Unmerge button in the bottom right corner of the page.

Thanks

What about the subaccounts I have?  I am in the process of moving to an address where my UVerse is not available and will not be.  So I have been forced to change internet providers.  Currently my son and one other family member have email addresses as part of my account.  Will those convert to free email addresses too?  My bill will be paid in full as I am on an autopay plan.

Couldn't access email site for several hours, page wouldn't come up.  Then it finally came back up yesterday and now I cannot log into my email account.  It's the free att email.  Have followed steps to reset password, don't know the security questions.  I never set them up.  Followed your tips for someone previously, stating to choose dropdown on the screen to choose how to have a temporary password sent to me, but that option is not there for me.  This has been the most horrible situation in locating where to go for assistance.  Everything takes you to the att pages for it you have an ATT paid for service.  Please help!

Hi there @boozer1996,

This is an excellent question! These days, our email addresses have so much history and assist us with our daily needs. i also wouldn't want to lost my account.

The email account is going to be separate from your DSL account. So you are able to keep your email account even without our internet services.

I hope this is advantageous. Have a good day!
