Using any RG with U-verse GigaPower?

I am a power user and would really like to not use the RG unit supplied by ATT. Can ATT please accomodate power users, make it more like Verizon FiOS, just give me the network drop from the ONT and let me take care of the rest. Right now U-verse has the RG keyed to the ONT with an 802.1x cert and this is just a pain in the @$$.

I'm happy to sign some little waiver not to blame ATT U-verse for problems with my equipment.

And no, DMZ mode on the RG isn't the same.

As far as I know, AT&T requires that the device connected to the U-verse network have a certificate.  Also, these certificates are only given in the AT&T firmware.

So... I'm afraid the answer is "no."

Sigh, yet another closed network system, i'm not surprised, it's ATT after all. Maybe one of these days FiOS will show in Austin and I'm back to doing what I want, instead of what ATT wants me to do. 🙂

Wonder if there's a way to get the Motorola NVG589 to cough up the certificates...

Looks like it's a modified Linux distro of some kind:
