getting 3D on 3D projector (Panasonic PTAE8000U)

I just recently got the new DirecTV Genie HD DVR Model: HR44-500.  I'm trying to connect it to my Panasonic PT-AE8000U projector which is 3D capable.

When I try to access any of the 3D channels, I get a message that the hardware is not 3D capable, even though both the DirecTV receiver and the projector should be.

I now see there are actually no projectors, only certain TVs listed on DirecTVs "official approved" list.

Anyone know if there's any way to get the 3D channels to work on the Panasonic projectors?

Thanks a lot.

Wish I could help but don't have a Genie yet. Try dbstalk under a thread that includes your projector, they have a thread for everything on the market. Hope you get it working. Don't worry about that list it's hopelessly outdated.

If you do not have a direct HDMI connection between Genie and projector, try a direct connection first. Sometimes, newer equipment needs a firmware update to handle some of its designed tasks.

I have an Onkyo receiver right now between them which I thought could have been the reason for it not working, so I actually tried removing that middle piece and going straight from the Genie to the projector, but that still said the hardware wasn't supported.

Any idea how I would upgrade the firmware?

Check with Panasonic about firmware. DirecTV firmware updates are done automatically. If you didn't unplug the Genie before trying a direct connection, do try that. Only change HDMI connections with the Genie and projector off. Unplugged is best as modern devices aren't really off unless unplugged.

I forgot to mention, there have been problems with the HR34 if it is ever turned on when the TV is off. It apparently only checked for a 3d capable display when it was turned on. Also try turning on the projector before turning on the HR44.
