New Sony XBR55X850A, HR24-50 says isn't 3D compatible

The TV is in Auto 3D mode.  I've even tried forcing it into side by side mode.  Restarted the box but still same results.  Help?

Almost forgot...TV connected directly to box via HDMI.  Not passing through A/V receiver.

Was the TV on before the box was restarted? That needs to be done to make sure the box to recognize the TV. What did you mean by restarted? Powering off, then on again may not do it. That only cuts off the panel lights and outputs. Unplugging and replugging or a red button or software reset is required to make sure the box finds the powered on TV when booting up. There have been problems with Genie's having to do be reset with the TV on if the TV is ever turned off but HR24s are more likely to have a problem with the HDMI cable. Try a different cable.

Yes, TV was on and performed a software restart. Just performed a red button restart and no change. Are there specific cabling requirements for 3D? Shouldn't any good-quality cable work just fine?

3D requires the cable to handle a return signal. There are HDMI cables out there that pre-date that ability. Any HDMI cable labeled high speed or 3D capable should handle it.

Cables are good. Completely forgot I had an HDMI splitter on this unit so we can see the same content in the kitchen.

I got a new, 3D compatible splitter but still no good.

Works like a charm. Just a hassle with the cabling is all.

Sounds like your HDMI Splitter isn't really 3D compatible.  Can you exchange it for a different one?
