I'm getting emails from AT&T that I need to update settings in Entourage (outlook) 2008 for Mac. I tried the updater. Did some chat. Finally turned things over to very helpful agent who took control of my Mac. He couldn't get the new "mandatory" settings towork either. Cobbled together a work-around using settings I have not heard of. While it works, i get error messages everytime i sent mail, even though the mail sends appropriately.
One problem may be that I have an old "swbell.net" account -- the agent mentioned this -- but there are about 1500 business contacts who know me by that email and I'll be darned if that seems like a good reason to change. If i change, it will be to leave Uverse and AT&T internet. But my preference is to stay.
This is all exaserbated by Significant Other, who uses an original iMac and entourage 2004. I t took years to get her to understand Copy and Paste -- I shudder at loading new software on her.
Uverse' email says I have until 12/11/13 to update -- something they can't do - so I have two questions:
1. Anyone know a good work around, especialy for entourage 2004?
2. What about recommendaoitns for replacement for Uverse internet and mail?

I'd like AT&T to either confirm or deny that the email I received today about making changes to my @bellsouth.net email settings in Outlook by December 11th is real or not.

I have the same issue. But can't seem to get any help via the private message as suggested in this thread. Here's the reply I got in response to my private message request. Sucks!
Unfortunately we do not support 3rd party such as entourage and only support our ATT email. If you are able to send / receive from web mail with no issues then you will need to contact Entourage.

My problem got referred to a very capable person higher up the chain. In case someone else is still having problems with Entourage 2008 for Mac, here's the information she provided that fixed the problem for me:
Here are the incoming and outgoing email settings:
1.Incoming (POP): inbound.att.net
2.Outgoing server (SMTP): outbound.att.net (requires authentication)
3.Incoming mail server: POP3
4.Incoming/Outgoing User Name: Your full AT&T email address
5.Incoming mail port #: 995, secure connection (SSL) checked
6.Outgoing mail port #: 465, secure connection (SSL) checked
