Parental Control

Parental Control

I'm trying to set up parental controls for my teen.

We have several laptops in the house.

Do the controls only work on the computer that you downloaded the parental controls program to?  ie...Do I need to install this on her laptop and not mine?

Re: Parental Control

Go to opendns.com. Just enter the DNS address in your router.. From there it screen all content in your home network no matter what device connects to it. It is free. I use it for family and kids etc.

If you're talking about the AT&T offerings, yes I believe they must be installed on all devices that need protection.

That has some advantages and disadvantages. On the upside, you don't have to install (and deal with) it on your computer, only the kids computers, and it will be on their computers if they take them somewhere else, like to their freinds house, or Starbucks. On the downside, I think it only works on computers. I don't believe it works for mobile devices, game consoles, bluray players, smart TVs etc.

On the other hand the OpenDNS solution ( http://www.opendns.com/home-solutions/parental-controls ) M4510003 mentioned will cover all devices on your network, but only while they are on your network, not while they are somewhere else.

Re: Parental Control

Thanks for your replies.

OpenDNS seems like a nice solution if it did not block all of the other computers on the network.

ATT's parental control feature is not very friendly.

I think I'm just going to resort to use the computers built in controls and see where it lands me.

Thanks again!
