Is the botnet advisory real or a scam?

We keep repeatly receiving a "botnet advisory" from ATT.  It asks you to do certain things and then forward the email to abuse@att.net.  Is this real or a scam of some type?

Probably legit. They've been doing it for a couple years now from what I've read.

Possibly triggered by suspicious IRC or torrent traffic and/or connections to other suspicious IP addresses.

Or you actually have a virus or other malware on your computer.
