Can't enter network key after replacing DSL modem

Replaced a 2Wire DSL modem with ATT3997 DSL modem. On my XP laptop I cannot connect to the ATT3997. When I enter the 10 digit network key, it returns error indicating the network password needs to be 40 bits or 104 bits, 5 to 13 ascii characters or 10 to 26 hex characters. How do I work around this?

What is the actual manufacturer and model number of your new modem?

If you are still on DSL there are four modems available:

Motorola 3360

Netgear 7550

Netgear 6200

Pace 4111N

It sounds as if you're not using the correct security level for your wireless connection.
