Sponsored Data and DIRECTV NOW

We know that some of our members are wondering how DIRECTV NOW will affect their AT&T Mobile Wireless plan. We have a few the answers below for commonly asked questions.

Streaming and Your AT&T Mobile Device

If you’re a DIRECTV NOW and AT&T Wireless customer, streaming most DIRECTV NOW movies and programs over the AT&T wireless network won't count against your data usage allowance.

Hot Spots

If you are using an AT&T Hot Spot, you will not incur data usage while streaming content if you have:

  • A postpaid wireless plan from AT&T.
  • A smartphone or tablet.
  • A connection to an AT&T Mobile Hotspot.
  • DIRECTV NOW app.

Other streaming devices including Apple TV and Amazon Fire Stick, do not qualify for data free streaming using an AT&T Mobile Hotspot.

Mobile Share Advantage

Content viewed within the DIRECTV NOW app will not count towards your Mobile Share Advantage data plan allotment. However, if you reach your data allotment and you’ve exhausted your Rollover Data and any other high speed allotments, all data usage will be slowed to 128 Kbps for the remainder of your bill cycle. You will not be able to stream video during this time.   If you want more high speed data, you can change your plan here

At this time, tethering a device from your ATT Mobile phone may incur data changes. AT&T does not have any information if or when that will change.

I'm supposed to get the $35 package for $10 with my AT&T bill.  It asks me to pay the full amount now

If you read the details in the terms for the Unlimited promotion, it says that it can take up to 3 billing cycles until the credit appears.  When did you sign up?  Note also that in early November, the amount of the credit (for new people signing up) changed from $25/month to $15/month.
