Upgrade Fee Waiver criteria

What are the criteria for an upgrade fee waiver? We've been ATT customers for about 14 years now, and upgraded our phone after 5 years - still the upgrade fee was charged. Order service people seem to have no idea about what the upgrade criteria is. Does someone around here know what it is?

It is only waived if you have a corporate discount plan that includes an upgrade fee waiver.

If you buy an unlocked phone outright from another source (e.g. you tell the Apple store you're going to use the unlocked iPhone on prepaid) you are not upgrading so there's no fee.

Even ATT employees don’t get the upgrade fee waived.

Yup, you need a signature program, like AARP, which waives the fee.

At&T charges a upgrade fee,and do not tell their customers,

that is a rip off.After you buy a 1200.00 phone you would think they weiver the fee,lol but no they want more money....

I feel the same way you do. We have also been with AT&T for many years (at least 10) and upgrade every 2-3 years. So I looked into it and found only certain corporate accounts get free upgrades! OUTRAGOUS! Again Big corporations looking out for each other.... they don't care about us little people! Plus my husband and I are both disabled! SMH! We worked for many years but unfortunately after trying all different types of work (pt, nights, work from home, etc) we both had to go on disability as opposed to ending up in the hospital, etc.  This world is becoming for the rich only IN MY opinion!

@Zuzu68

So sign up for AARP.  There is no age requirement.  It cost very little.  And you get other discounts on other businesses

And if you're going to claim poverty while financing expensive phones on more expensive postpaid service, you arent going to get much sympathy when there are so many cheaper options for both.

Full AARP membership is available to anyone age 50 and over. Get immediate access to discounts, products and services when you sign up today.

Members under 50 will get access to all of the great benefits that come with a membership that isn't restricted by vendor offer requirements, such as age-restricted insurance products.

Yup.  Like skeeter wrote.  Just like any other business, AARP benefits when they have more customers/members.
