Trade-In

I have been an AT&T customer since 2008.  Last year, AT&T advertised an iPhone XS upgrade for $300, so i traded in my iPhone 6s.  I sent in the trade-in the same day i received the new device.  The trade-in department confirmed receiving the device but they had registered it under a phone number I had on an extra line several years ago.  I was never able to get this corrected.  Then 6 months later, i was told that I had used the wrong return label and that this invalidated the deal, despite the trade-in department magically receiving the device.  Mind you, I still have the "new device return label" in my possession, as confirmed by a rep at an AT&T store.  AT&T then locked me into a non-upgradeable $900 contract in the middle of the pandemic as my salary got halved.

The trade-in department received the device well before the last due day to return the device.  There was sufficient time to inform me that the deal would not be honored, and although the trade-in device is never returned, I could have at least returned this non-premium $900 device.  This was done deliberately.  And telling from the forums, these dishonored deals amount to huge profits.

I have filed a complaint with the FCC, ticket number 4601418.  If this action fails to deliver results, there are unfortunately numerous consumers who have been duped by these AT&T trade-in deals to file another (Edited per community guidelines) (Edited per community guidelines).

So what label did you use to send the phone back then, since you claim you still have the label that came with your new phone. Also, your device is not under contract.

AT&T sent two return labels; one for the trade-in, and another in case you reject the new device.  The old device (iPhone 6s on the 2nd line on my account) was eligible for an upgrade.  My primary device is also up for an upgrade but i'll buy direct from the manufacturer from now on.
