Trade-in scam

The promotion where you trade in your iPhone for $700 to get the latest one is a scam. They basically give you a $700 credit to your bill, and then you end up paying the $700 back along with the rest of the worth of the phone within a 30 month period. It’s basically a wash. The supervisor even admit it on the phone. Once I finish my payments I’m leaving this company and going pre-paid somewhere else. If a deal sounds too good to be true, it’s because it is. Scammers.

You clearly don’t understand the promotion. No, it’s not a scam. You do not pay that $700 back. Yes, you must maintain service the entire 30 month period to get the $700 credit but that’s not a scam. Look at it this way, say you buy a phone that costs $800. Over those 30 months, you will pay $100 for the phone and ATT pays $700. How is that a wash?

Well I’m paying $33.34 per month for 30 months. $33.34 x 30 = $1,000.2, the value of the phone. How is that not a scam?

Hello @Rgrullon519, we'd be glad to provide you with details on how our Trade-In promotions work towards your account.

The way our trade in process works:

  • You’ll get an email with details on how to send in your old device.
  • Your prepaid shipping supplies will arrive within 10 business days.
  • Send us your old device within 30 days of activating your new one.
  • Once you’ve met all promo requirements, you’ll receive the promo credits within 1-3 billing cycles. Check your AT&T wireless bill for your credits!

Feel free to let us know if you have any other questions about our Trade-In program, as we'd love to educate.

Thanks for reaching out to the AT&T Community!

Yes I got the credit and now I’m paying it back slowly since this is a wash promotion, aka scam. I am aware of how the trade in process works, and now of the scam. It’s been 9 months since the “promotion”.

You aren’t subtracting the trade in credit from that $33.34 payment. You should be getting a $23.33 credit each month against that payment making your actual phone payment $10.01. Again, you clearly don’t understand the promotion.

Hi there, I joined ATT in the same trade-in promotional $33.34 x 30 = $1,000.2.

After 5 months I stopped getting credit and from last 3 months I was continue calling ATT customer support but no one helping. How come the credit getting dropped. No one knows and transfering me from one to another department and every time giving new promise that next month you will start seeing credit.

Very frustating, be aware with this scam from ATT.

If somone had similar issue and know how to resolved please please help, I'm tired calling and chatting with ATT rep.

Thanks for your response, @Rgrullon519.

Since you've stated that you're indeed receiving the credit, this means you're getting a monthly credit applied to your account in the amount of $23.33 for 30 months. (Meaning your only paying 10.01 monthly for your device.)

We see no scam in this promotion, but let us know if you have further questions or concerns!

Thank you!

@Rgrullon519

Where are you getting your math skills?

If you got $700 up front (which is wrong), and are paying for a $1000 phone, you are only paying a net of $300 for the phone, which is what you knew you had to pay.

After 5 months I stopped getting credit

Well that’s new information. Why didn’t you state that in your first post? Did you change your plan? Late on any payments? Regardless, if calls aren’t getting results, you can escalate to corporate by filing an FCC or BBB complaint.

@sandblaster That was a different user chiming in.

@Rgrullon519 How long have you been a customer? Credits don't start for three billing cycles, so maybe that explains your confusion with the promotion.
