Texting a friend Overseas

My friend is currently abroad and using their US cell phone with a US sim card.  They purchased an unlimited texting roaming plan so that they aren't charged for sending or receiving texts.

If I text that friend on their US number while they are abroad and I am still in the US, will I be charged for sending or receiving?

note: by text I am referring to SMS messages.

Hi there! Nope, as far as your carrier/plan are concerned you're still texting a US number, no matter where that number is, so you'll pay your rate for domestic text messages. The same applies for MMS.

Hope this helps!

Thank you so much for the verification! I saw similar answers in other forum posts but only from back in 2009 and I wanted to make sure things hadn't changed since then, which clearly they haven't! 🙂

They sure haven't. 🙂 You should also be able to login into myAT&T and view your usage details for messages and see that the charge for those sent messages are listed as 0.00.
