Scam text msg from "at&t"

Recieved text msg supposedly from at&t saying that I had been overcharged last month. What gave it away to me is all other free msgs are from 5 or 6 digit numbers. This one is from a phone #917-664-3706.  And besides the fact that the account isnt even in my name. the wording and link provided are equally suspicious

"Kindly your reembercment here". Who at at&t texts like that? Come on!!

Below is a copy of message

AT&T Free Msg: Jared, we accidentally overcharged your account last month. Kindly your reimbursement here: k3hfn.info/tFwbCP4cLV

Hi @! Let's address the spam text you received!

Thank you for bringing this to our attention, do not click on any unknown links, reply or call the spammer as doing so will only alert the spammer your number is active and clicking on the link could lead to malware and compromise of your personal data.

Forward the spam message to 7726 (SPAM) to report to AT&T or our website, learn more about Texting Scams, how to protect yourself and more ways to report spam texts. Lastly, we recommend downloading our AT&T Mobile Security & Call Protect App which scans your device and all apps for malware and suspicious software.

We hope this helps! Reach back to us if you have additional questions!

I got the same text msg today.

They used the name Vesna which is not or even close to my name! SMH LOL.

The text reads...

AT&T free message

Vesna we accidentally charged you a surcharge on your phone bill last month.

Please your reimbursement here:

k7hzv.info/fs8KgatFIO

From # 1-917-644-5510

There were 3 give aways!

1-Wrong name

2- at end of text. The english was so off.

3- Don't think AT&T uses FIO.

Do not click on the link!

Delete and block number.

If anyone receives a text beginning with 917-644. Disregard or report!

just curious, do you also get scam texts supposedly from Costco with the same sort of writing?

I got one of these AT&T ones today from 917-664-3080 and also immediately recognized the difference between the typical AT&T free message # and this actual 10-digit number. It also immediately raised a red flag because just like with the phony Costco ones, they referred to me as “Karin”. My name is definitely not Karin and I don’t even know a Karin. (or a Karen, the common spelling) Karins/Karens aren’t my kinda people either.

I don’t know how this all got started but I have been receiving these scam messages for Karin for a while now from various bogus numbers, and I have had this number for more than a decade now, and I don’t think it belonged to a Karin before me.

If they hadn’t addressed me as Karin in this message then I might not draw a connection between all of them, but the fact that in my case they always use the same incorrect name seems to indicate that they are connected, which is why I was curious if anyone else had received similar messages for other stores/vendors.

You should ignore any suspicious text messages, @TommyUdo!

It's advised that you report unwanted calls and text messages by dialing 7726 (SPAM) which is free with AT&T Wireless or forward those messages simply by completing this form.

Scammers send messages that appear to be from well known companies. The messages may contain links to Web pages disguised to look nearly identical to the legitimate companies' sites. Fake messages imply that it's urgent for the customer to update personal information to avoid some threat or risk to their personal accounts.

You will want to follow these steps to take further action to protect your identity from fraudsters who use various tactics to try to steal customer details such as your name, date of birth, address, or Social Security number.

AT&T will never contact you by email, SMS, or recorded call asking for personal information. Don't reply to an email you think may be a phishing scam and never click a link in a suspicious email to determine if it is valid.

We hope this info helps!

Got one today from (956) 505-9116

AT&T Free Message:  "My Name" we accidently surcharged your account last month.  Please your reimbursement here:  Hyperlink  lsv.3m.info/uDqyR5ghxV

I cannot figure out how to forward a text to 7726 (as per AT&T's instructions)

Having my name with my mobile number is a bit creepy.

I've received two of these messages, from two #s in the 917 area code.  Strangely, they used my correct name, and correct spelling (which is uncommon for my name).  I just recently switched to AT&T, and actually had a credit applied to my bill just a day or two before receiving the first message.  I considered it might be legit, but the weird way it was written made me suspicious enough to report it, and not click it.
