Why am I getting Sierra Leone scam calls?

I recently fell victim to a scam call from Sierra Leone, of which I was charged $50 on my bill. After speaking with 2 different people over the matter, I am somehow still responsible for being scammed. First of all, the number called me at 5 in the morning. Att insisted that I called them. Even tho, I know for a fact I didn’t call them. I have 7 lines on my account and had been getting several calls a day from Africa. Of which, they even seen on my account. After the fact, we saw where they was warning people not to answer these calls because they were scam calls. I am still trying to figure out why they warn you to not answer if it’s safe to answer “per AT&T”... After some research, I even found reports from Att themselves reporting that these calls were coming from Sierra Leone and after a google search of the number, it has been flagged multiple times as a scam number. My issue is that I am a victim regardless of what Att claims. I did not call the number back. Why am I as a victim of fraud being made to pay these fees that occurred from these scam calls?? I have been a loyal customer for at least 15 years and never have I had any problems. If there were ever any problems, Att resolved them quickly. But not this time. I pay them close to $500 a month but they can’t understand that I am the victim and let me off over a $50 charge that was not my fault. I have to say this is the worst experience I have ever had with AT&T and I am very disappointed that you are making the victim pay.

Greetings @gina4474

We thank you for continuing to be a part of the AT&T family up to 15 years, and hate to hear about your unfortunate experience with a scam call. Allow us to lend a helping hand!

To protect yourself, your account, and your mobile device from fraud calls or security breaches on your AT&T account, it is best recommended not to provide any personal account information such as (Credit Cards, SSN, Account info) to any unfamiliar calls that aren't associated with your contact lists.

Please review our AT&T Call Protect/Mobile Security link which will provide more information and details on how to keep your cellphone and phone calls safe and secure, as well as Registering for the AT&T Do Not Call List.

We hope this information is helpful, and enjoy the rest of your day!

I have received calls from someone saying they are with Direct TV and they are giving a 50% discount and after several minutes of them telling me what my account looks like the catch was that the first 6 months have to be paid upfront and with a gift card... I did not fall for it so today I get another call saying that they saw where I called in and was informed that the call from yesterday was a scam... he was telling me that it was not a scam and the person on the other end just did not know about the promotion... Just a few minutes ago I got another call - which I have started letting them go to voice mail - says that my service has been disconnected and that I need to call to make payment over the phone to restore service... the numbers are all over the place from 844 - 877 - 800 and when I call these numbers back they have the AT&T recording on the phones so it sounds really legit...

I've recently received several of these calls too and when I called the number back today (480 780 9524), it said something about Auto Warranties and to press 1 to be added to the do not call list.  I hung up.  Other numbers they've used are 855 895 0767.  Also 732 413 5039 and 810 462 1438.  Three of the callers were the same person.

I received a call from someone saying that they would give me a big discount on AT&T Direct TV.  When I said to please send the that information they said it wasn't for everyone just me and would lower my AT%T charges, but there was a hitch and that payment had to be for a two month period.  I did not fall for this and did not give any information and hung up on the person.  Where does this need to be reported?  To AT&T?  To the police?

I am receiving calls from someone saying they are with Apple and my cloud has been compromised. They call from legitimate numbers in my area every 15 - 30 minutes using a different number each time they call. Sometimes they leave voice messages. I have found if I reject call they cannot leave a voice mail so they call back later using another number. This has been going on all afternoon and now into the evening. I am blocking the numbers, but what else can I do to make this stop?
