international day pass

We requested the international day pass to be added to one phone line in September 2022 for 30 days while abroad. It was added but only charged for a few days. The rest of the days traveled was charged for roaming minutes even though the phone had roaming OFF. Airplane mode was also turned on. We now have a large bill for roaming charges, because the day plan was not activated for the entire time that it was requested. Customer service has not been helpful. How can this bill be disputed?

Hello Madamd, we're here to help with your International Day Pass billing charges.


As the ACE @formerlyknownas mentioned, once the International Day Pass applies to your line it covers land roaming expenses in covered countries at $10 per day. There is a cap of 10 charges/$100 per bill cycle.

  • Be sure you have an AT&T unlimited, AT&T 4GB, or Mobile Share plan.
  • Pay a daily fee for each 24-hour period that you talk, text, or use data within an included country. Only one daily fee is charged even when you travel to multiple included countries in the same day. The daily fee applies to each line on your account using International Day Pass. 
    • For 1 line, it’s $10 a day.
    • For each additional line on the same account used in the same 24-hour period, there’s a daily charge of $5.
    • You'll never pay more than 10 daily fees per line, per bill period.
    • You can see a list of included countries.

There has to be a bit more to the story because that's not how International day pass works. International day pass doesn't turn off in 30 days you add it and it stays there until you turn it off.   Once International Day passes applied to your line it covers land roaming expenses in covered countries at $10 per day.  There is a cap of 10 charges/$100 per bill cycle. 

The only way you would rack up roaming charges is if you were someplace that International day pass does not cover. For example on a cruise ship or in Cuba...

The other possibility is that you used Wi-Fi calling and bypassed International Day pass, and made long-distance calls not covered, to a non US number.  Those would be legitimate charges.

We feel very ripped off by the Day Pass.  My phone stays in Airplane mode and I am make calls on Wifi. Some days AT&T charges me for a day pass even though I am in Airplane Mode and on Wifi.  (Some days they don’t.  It’s a crap shoot and inconsistent.). But all of their documentation and rules say that if you keep your phone in airplane mode, you won't be charged for a day pass.  I am thinking someone will start a (Edited per community guidelines) (Edited per community guidelines) against AT&T soon.  

I do not recommend using AT&T abroad unless you are ok with paying for a day pass even when you don't want to use it.
