Insurance coverage

I recently switch to Att (September), realized that despite my denial of insurance coverage from At&t during the setup, I was charged for insurance for a total of three months. I immediately contacted At&t to cancel this insurance and get refunded for the months charged. I happened to break my phone during coverage but didn't realize yet that I was covered with Att so just went to my credit card insurance that is now asking for "Please provide a copy of the settlement or denial from the Eligible Person’s applicable cellular telephone insurance. " The last three phone calls (over an hour long each) were a complete waste of time! Would appreciate some help.

so did at&t refund you the charges when you cancelled? it doesnt matter if you were covered when the phone broke and then cancel, the insurance coverage isnt retroactive when you cancel

I definitely requested a refund and got a verbal confirmation that I will be receiving it, but between what's said and what is actually done ...

Then I would just need a letter of denial!

There would be no letter of denial unless you filed an insurance claim. Did you ever file a claim?

You're right so a letter that says that I am just not covered and that it was a mistake

I'm not sure how long after the event you can file a claim. If you file a claim and the insurance company (Asurion) shows you had active coverage on that date and you're still within the right dates, it will probably approve the claim. If the AT&T rep just canceled the insurance and gave a credit for the previous months, Asurion would still show you had coverage. If they were able to back date the cancellation of insurance, then Asurion should show that.

The reason I'm pointing this out, is that if the claim is approved, you will be on the hook for the insurance deductible and expected to send in the damaged device. If you still have the damaged phone, then that shouldn't be an issue and you would just send in the approval showing you owe the deductible. If not, things could get a bit hairier.

We'll be happy to guide you in the right direction regarding your insurance claim @Padout.

To file a claim, you'll need to reach out to Asurion, either by calling them at 888-562-8662 (weekdays from 8am to 10pm EST and weekends from 9am to 9pm EST) or via the claim website. Please do bear in mind that a claim must be filed within 60 days of the incident; therefore, if this occurred prior to early December, the window has already closed.

Please let us know if you have any additional questions; if so, we'll be happy to assist. Thanks for reaching out to our AT&T Community.
