Insane phone bill
So, I’m a college student and I have my own line. I have an Iphone 7 plus that I got in Sept. 2017, which I am currently still paying installments on. I have a pretty basic plan - (unlimited talk and text plus 6 GB of data). The problem is I was working a seasonal position but recently was given a two month break, so unfortunately I’ve been unable to pay my phone bill for now going on 3 months. My phone service was suspended and has been suspended since January and was just cancelled Feb. 25. I just got a 2nd job but I’m still struggling to get my finances back where they need to be. I currently owe AT&T $300 past due and for this month combined almost $600. The income that I make will literally take me probably two months to be able to pay that amount. In this case, what should I do? I was advised to call AT&T and ask to lower it I’ve still been billed even though my service has been suspended. Not really sure, I’ve never had to deal with this. Honestly, I’m probably switching to a different service provider because I just haven’t had a good experience with AT&T and it is ridiculously overpriced for someone like me who’s a struggling college student.

I don’t understand what you are expecting. You know exactly what you have been paying every month, obviously 2 or 3 months of that plus the rest of what you owe on the phone is going to add up and yes you do continue to be billed after service is suspended. Now that your account has been cancelled, they won’t bill you any more but you are still obligated what has already been billed. You don’t seriously expect ATT to except less, do you? You may be able to work out a payment plan but if you do nothing, ATT will just turn your debt over to a collection agency and put a hit on your credit.

Yea, and what I’ve been paying every month is total crap. In general, they’re a crappy service provider. Period.

You knew exactly what it was going to cost when you signed up. You could have bought a cheaper prepaid iPhone and used prepaid service. If my college age sons pulled this they would be getting quite an earful for being so irresponsible.

FYI, I had no idea it would be $200+ a month since that’s what the sales representative stated. Had I known, I wouldn’t have gone through with it. But again, ATT is overall a crappy service provider to allow sales reps to spread false information in order to lieu and misinform people about what they’re buying. Before you judge and talk crap, know the facts which you clearly don’t know.

The 6 gig plan was $60, plus $20 line charge, unless you had a 3 gig plan which doubled, that was $40+20. Then the installments. There is no way it works out to $200 a month for a 6 gig plan and even top of the line smartphone.
