If you don't have a smartphone, why pay more?

I recently upgraded my service to the AT&T unlimited elite plan to have 5G access. One of my phones on this family plan is a flip phone, not a smart phone. Why does that phone "basic phone" still cost as much per month as my smart phones. I thought it was only supposed to be a $20 monthly charge?

Hi @mundili,

Thank you for reaching out. We are more than happy to assist with your billing inquiry.

We are curious to know the specific brand and model of the flip phone.

Also, please be aware, that the AT&T Unlimited Elite wireless plan comes with $50 monthly access free per phone, and $20 monthly access fee for Wireless Home Phone, Tablets and Camera.

Please reach back to us if you need further assistance.

@ATTHelp it is an LG flip phone and still incurring a $50 access fee. as well as the tablet (ipad) which is one of our lines - it has a $50 access fee. How to I get this changed for my next bill and credited for my last bill.

Thanks!

Hello @mundili,

Thank you for reaching back out to us.

Please keep in mind that the phone access charge for your AT&T Unlimited Elite plan is $50 for each of your cell phones.

Also, are you saying that your iPad is showing a $50 access charge as well when you review your bill?

If so, is your iPad on a separate stand-alone data plan, or is your iPad's line under the same AT&T Unlimited Elite plan that your cell phone is on?

Please let us know.

We look forward to hearing back from you.

Thanks for replying. The iPad line is part of the Unlimited Elite plan because we had an upgrade deal attached to it. so it shows a $50 plan. What should I do about the flip phone plan. would it be better to have it on a prepaid plan?

YES!
You can even take advantage of the $15 prepaid plan for a couple of months until AT&T forces you off it.
The only hitch will be switching from postpaid to prepaid and keeping the phone number.
If it becomes a hassle you can switch that phone number to Consumer Cellular or cricket, both are mvnos of AT&T and a locked AT&T phone will work on either carrier just fine, and for a lot less

The unlimited data plans are designed for those with smartphones, tablets, and watches. Move the flip phone line to AT&T prepaid, with auto pay its $25 a month
