How to set data usage alert?

We’re now on a limited wireless data plan, so it’s extremely important to manage our data use. At one time I got a message when we reached 75 percent data used, but I don’t see any way to set that now, only a bill amount, which isn’t helpful at all.

Your Android phone has this function built in to settings. IPhone does not.

The path will be different depending on which Android phone you have. Open settings, connections, data usage.

Under data usage you should see several options including something that says bill cycle and data warning. You have to set the date correctly for your bill cycle and select how much data  you want the limit and warning.

With these settings your phone will actually warn and limit itself to the amount of data you have selected

Unfortunately that doesn’t help me, since we’re iPhone users. This used to be a setting in the AT&T app. Why would they have removed it?

I don't recall any such thing through at&t.

The only time you got a 75% warning is when you're on an unlimited data plan and you have used up 75% of your full speed data. If you switch from unlimited to the 4 gig plan or to a prepaid plan, those are capped.  You can't go over

We can go over our plan, but it will cost us. THAT’s what we want to prevent.

What plan do you have do you have?   (The name is on your bill)

None of the current plans have overage possible.

Good afternoon @sdawkins, we know how vital it is to manage your data usage and we are here to help!

The time when alerts are sent will vary depending on your plan. In addition to the helpful info our ACEs have provided, please check out our article on customizing usage alerts to learn how the notifications differ and how to edit usage alerts by logging into myAT&T:

  • Go to your myAT&T profile. Sign in, if asked.
  • Select Communications.
  • Toggle each alert On or Off. Then, let us know where we should notify you.
  • Select Save.

Please let us know if this helps!

Our plan is Mobile Hotspot and Laptop Connect 50GB.

I have toggle switches to turn notification off/on for:

Bill threshold

Bill ready

Service alerts

Bill reminders

That’s it. Absolutely nothing for data usage.

Hi sdawkins, we are here to help you get usage alerts!

Thank you to ACE formerlyknownas, for stepping in to help.

For older plans that don't include unlimited data

  • If you go over your data limit and we add data, you'll get automatic alerts when you reach 75% and 100% of the new total data limit.

If this does not help, let us know what plan you currently have with your mobile hotspot, so we can provide personalized help.

We hope this helps, reach back out to us if you have additional questions. Thank you for reaching out to the AT&T Community Forums!

@sdawkins

Our plan is Mobile Hotspot and Laptop Connect 50GB.

You are definitely on a less desirable plan.

Prepaid data only plans are less expensive and no overage.

Your laptop should indicate it's data usage.

https://www.att.com/support/article/wireless/KM1048698/

This has nothing to do with your iphones data, which I assume is on a separate account from your phones.
