How do you get in contact with the collections department, customer service cannot even connect

I cancelled my account in March of 2018 and was still being charged until May for one of the lines. ATT paid me back that money they charged me for since they took it out of my bank account. Then several months later I got a bill again for the same amount and now it is in collections. I have tried to call 5 times concerning this issue, no one can help me at all. They supposedly gave me the number to collections but It always kicks me back to customer service. Absolutely no one has been able to help me. I do not want to pay money I do not owe that I already got paid back for only to get charged again. I do not want bad credit because ATT does not know what is going on. I was a customer for 20 years and that is how I was treated.

@whatsnextdepending on how old the debt is it may have been sold off to a 3rd party debt collection agency in that case at&t no longer legally owns the debt or account and you would need to contact the collection agency for that. if its early enough to be with their internal collections then call and say collections at the voice prompt

AT&T sent what “They” day I owe them to a collection agency after we’d agreed on a closing bill amount. I have read too many stories along the same lines. I believe this big media company got huge by stealing from its customers this way. Then when you call, you get an agent that cannot speak English. What ever they say goes, and who is out there to protect us?

Now I found a collections account in my credit file!! Making my credit score go down by 50+ points!!! This is an outrage.

So tired of these giants taking advantage of regular people.
