Experian Boost does not recognize "Connect Tech" as a cell phone carrier, when you pay your bill with a credit card it no longer says AT&T

When you pay your AT&T bill now with a credit card instead of saying that the payment is for AT&T it says it is for "Connect Tech", that's ridiculous did you know that Experian boost does not recognize "Connect Tech" as a cell phone carrier? When you pay your AT&T bill with a credit card it should say that you paid AT&T not "Connect Tech"!! Whoever decided to use "Connect Tech" for AT&T customer credit card payment processing should be fired!! that's right they should lose their job. Customers who use Experian boost and who rely on the AT&T cell phone history payment history to prove and show that they pay their bills are now getting screwed by AT&T! Some (Edited per community guidelines) working for AT&T decided to switch to some credit card processing company called "connectech", and yes this includes if you call in and use the automated system it's integrated into AT&T corporate. Customers who formerly enjoyed credibility with Experian boost utilizing their AT&T cell phone payment history BE WARNED, Experian boost is going to drop that history like a bad habit and drop your credit score once they see "connect tech" on your credit card payment, instead of it saying AT&T like it use to in the past!!

Connect Tech isn't technically a 3rd party, it's another service offered by AT&T. I think it's really strange that it's showing up as the payee for cell phone bills.

Regardless, assigning the merchant category is definitely the responsibility of the credit card company. If you want Connect Tech's code changed, talk to them.

If you don't utilize Experian boost how in any way, shape or form would this be relevant to your concerns? 🤔😊

Perhaps a real conversation with AT&T and Experian boost would be more appropriate and more importantly a more accurate representation of realtime. Wikipedia is not necessarily the end-all-be-all of any situation and not necessarily accurate regarding actual real time circumstances. 😎

One may ask would it be easier for AT&T to simply request of connect Tech to add "AT&T - Connect Tech" to their customers receipt? Or would it be easier to convince Experian that connect Tech was really "AT&T"?

Neither Corporation really cares about anyone as an individual.

I can't find anything official, but I'm pretty sure Experian uses the MCC to categorize payments. The MCC is assigned by the credit card company. The Wikipedia entry gives a high-level overview confirming that.

AT&T is not involved.

Edit: We were posting at the same time.

This wouldn't make a difference, as the MCC wouldn't change. The system isn't looking for AT&T, unless Experian is using a really wacky system.

Upon your suggestion I called connect Tech today via telephone. They stated that they have nothing to do with AT&T Wireless billing and referred me back to discuss with AT&T Wireless billing department and transferred my call. I had a very interesting phone conversation yet again today with AT&T Wireless billing they stated that they are now receiving phone calls from customers who are placing "disputes" on the charges on their credit cards for "connectech" because those customers do not recognize "connect Tech" on their credit card statements. So it seems that this situation is snowballing into more than just "Experian boost" it's literally starting to domino into credit card charges be disputed by customers who do not recognize "connect Tech". Because this is such a new issue AT&T is trying to sort out what to do. I am preparing a 5th email with a request for Experian boost to request a "manual label in the recognition system to code for connect Tech specifically in conjunction with AT&T Wireless billing."  I am going to push the issue with them upon your suggestion once again. But at least a t t has confirmed that it is creating another issue for them regarding credit card disputes and I am not the only customer with this problem!

It's been happening for over a month now, so I don't know what's going on. I'd be very surprised if the change was intentional, or at least it showing up as Connect Tech.

Hello @ ! Allow for us to provide you with information on the credit card details after making a payment!

As previously mentioned in the thread by @MicCheck and other users, Experian is third party, it will not be associated entirely to AT&T with the credit card's company. For more information, we recommend that you contact your financial institution, with regards on the name change. If you have any AT&T related questions in the future, feel free to reach out!

We hope this information was helpful!

Number one: There was no issue with any of this whatsoever until AT&T made a change with what the receipt, which now reads on the transaction to the financial institution "connect tech. That change was made on AT&T's end, now showing "connect tech" instead of AT&T.

Number two: none of this address is what is now a secondary issue confirmed by a T & T Wireless billing yesterday on the phone regarding the fact that customer set up on auto pay who now see a charge from "connect tech" as a charge on their bills and do not recognize "connect tech" as their AT&T wireless bill are now disputing charges with their financial institutions.

Number three: exactly what is this community for on me here for? The amount of pushback that I have gotten for pointing out what is a new and known problem and issue both from Legacy Community contributors and now directly from AT&T is disturbing at best. Being challenged as to whether this situation is true or not? Exactly what is that all about? Is this forum here to help solve problems or is it some kind of popularity contest? Because I'm here to inform you if that's the case that this isn't social media oh, this isn't Twitter or Facebook or Reddit this isn't a place where you're trying to gain followers and popularity and some kind of social status! If that's why you're here you're place. If you want to bury this post so that nobody knows what's going on that's your prerogative. I for one won't back down from bullies. If you don't think there are any problems at AT&T or if this isn't a big deal to you or an issue to you in any way shape or form why comment on this post in the first place! As far as being an AT&T employee why would you treat an AT&T customer as if this is  solely my issue!? I don't have time to waste on this community forum and rack up a hundred thousand posts or replies because I'm not here for some popularity contest I want to make that point clear right now! Mark my words shortly in the future that bill will be changed again to reflect AT&T on the credit card processing reciept, instead of "connect tech" , because I am not wrong in this case!! Never ever run from the truth! Bless you all and have a wonderful day!

Number One: True.

Number Two: That doesn't affect you at all and it's not really any of your business. A comment from one person really doesn't mean much, anyway.

Number Three: The forums are here for customers to help other customers. You've received the help you needed, i.e. if you have problems with how Experian is reading your credit card information, you need to contact Experian and the credit card company. It's not AT&T's responsibility to bill in a way that makes those entities happy. So people don't receive "credit" by Boost for paying their electric bill, because it shows on the credit card bill as the city name, so there's no way to tell it's a utility payment. It happens.

Again, I think the strange is really strange and can't fathom why this change happened. I can totally understand confusion. However, that's really neither here nor there. If nothing changes and that's not acceptable to you, find a provider that better meets your needs.
