Customer service is scarier than a horror movie
I’m not the kind of person who would ever annoy a worker or create drama. But you gotta hear this story before signing up for them:
1) reaching an assistant will take you about half an hour. Multiple AT&T employees hung up on me today for no reason.
2) they charge you for international phone calls if you use FaceTime or messenger, Line, Viber etc to call someone outside of the country. I’m from Ukraine. I have family there, and My dad recently switched to AT&T. He FaceTimed my sister a couple of times and he got a bill of $243 (instead of the $65 that he signed up for).
3) the person who we were talking to at some point muted herself and didn’t listen to a word when we were explaining the situation to her. She just decided she didn’t want to listen. Anyway, time to switch to a better service provider.
THIS WAS JUST. NOT. WORTH. IT

Unfortunately, having international calls blocked doesn’t stop them if some third party app places the call over ATT’s cellular voice network. WhatsApp is infamous for doing that. I’ve never heard of FaceTime doing that but it’s possible. More than likely he wasn’t actually using FaceTime and international calls aren’t actually blocked. I guarantee you ATT doesn’t charge unless the call is over the cellular voice network.

No, they don’t. If your dad got billed, it wasn’t a FaceTime call.

Yeah that’s what I thought too. Except he had international disk blocked in his account when he opened his account. Soo when we called today the employee told us to not use FaceTime

International call blocking is just what it says I blocks you from making the originating call from the phone. However when using apps and signal deteriorates the app will revert to cell coverage in which the call didn’t originate from your cell

I agree with the comment, calling customer service is like your worst horror story, Shame on you AT&T, outsourced all in the name of corporate greed, yet you continue to up your rates to customers, long time customers who made you what you are today, even having customers pay for your tech support aside from your regular billing, I'll finish with this one last comment, off shore customer service will have you so frustrated after the conversation ends , until you want to pull your hair out, at least that's been my personal experience, shame, shame,shame@#$%^&*

One way to avoid being billed for international calls is to disable cellular service on the device (iPhone or iPad) and making sure you are connected to Wi-Fi before beginning the FaceTime, WhatsApp, or other call. This will ensure that you are using Wi-Fi and cannot be billed through a cellular carrier.
It's a bit of a pain, but it's less painful than paying international rates for calls.
