BJ'S ATT iPhone 11 on us -& 250 dollar gift card offer fraud

I met the ATT sales person in BJs store in Exton,PA on January 1st week.

The offer was iPhone 11 on us with eligible iPhone trade.

I took 4 lines , 3 iPhone 11's & 1 11 pro .

I sent the eligible phones to ATT.

I received the gift cards.

It's been almost 2 months since I opened up a case with ATT.

Even after several calls , no update .

The answer was - they are looking into the case & there is a backlog in back office cases.

I think this is a fraud offer .

ATT is charging me for the devices from the last 7 months.

Did anyone else experience the same ?

Those kiosks in BJ's, Costco, and Sam's Club are not owned and operated by AT&T employees. These are franchise services.

The offer from AT&T is a $700 trade in offer, not free phones.

Yes I have seen similar complaints from the stores I listed above. In the end the only way to get any credits is to complain against both the retailer, in your case BJ's and AT&T.

If BJ's messed up or lied, AT&T is not going to take responsibility, but may honor a promotion if you met requirements.

File a Better Business Bureau complaint against both businesses, and hopefully they will get their act together and at least provide you with an answer.

Greetings @RT2000,

We hate to hear that you've been charged for the devices for the last 7 months. We'd like to ask you some questions to better assist you.

  • Were you given the break down on the promotion?
  • Have you tried to get back in contact with the salesperson?

hello,

I was not given any breakdown - but ATT provided me the return labels to send my phones back , which I did. After that I did not get hear back from ATT.

And to make matters worse, ATT has been looking at this ticket for nearly 2 months without any updates.

I was offered this deal by an AT&T  customer service representative who came to my house with a technician to repair the service line to my house. I just cannot figure out how to find my bill!

I have the very same issue, signed up new AT&T service during Black Friday in 2019.  The promotion was for a free iPhone 11 with eligible trade-in, the monthly installment amount for the phone would be credited after phone is sent in.  We mailed the phone in using the supplied shipping label - made the mistake of not keeping the label #.  It's now August and I've been paying monthly installments for the phone yet not receiving a credit.  I called a few months back and they told me to see it on the next statement going forward.  Still no credits - called AT&T today and they tell me they are not familiar with this promotion nor they have record of receiving the trade-in phone.

This is quite upsetting, and now it seems others have experienced similar problems.

Sorry to hear that it happened to you as well.

I went to the BJ's store yesterday & asked them about this.

They told me that several people complained about the same -

They promised me that ATT rep would call me .

I am still waiting...

We were told we would receive a free iPhone 13pro and $250 BJ gift cards. (X2)

We are being billed for the “free” phone and we have not received the $250 gift cards. We asked BJ customer service and they say that’s AT&T’s responsibility. We asked AT&T and they said it’s BJ’s responsibility. Hmmmm. This sales is looking more and more like it’s fraudulent. I’m not done with this.

After stopping at an AT&T store today, I texted the young man, today, who sold the “deal” to my wife and me.

I texted….
note: (I did not even mention the gift card)

I just confirmed that we did NOT get our phones for free. There IS. a monthly charge for the “free” phone. Integrity is a critical aspect of sales.  It saddens me that you were not truthful.

His reply:

“I left that company a while ago they weren’t truthful with me I said to people what they told me to say and most some stuff weren’t completely true and they were also cutting our paychecks short”

Also note: When he sold us the iPhone 13 pros, as a new salesman,  he was actually reading and following the steps from his notes.

That’s not AT&T issue. The gift cards would have come from BJs. AT&T doesn’t stock their gift cards.

The people that resell AT&T services in BJ's do not work for AT&T and never did. Their paychecks do not come from AT&T. They work for Smart Circle which is a third-party reseller that works also out of Sam's Club and Costco. I have no doubt that Smart Circle trains their employees correctly. It is up to the individual employee to stick to the promotional material and describe it correctly. There was someone from Smart Circle who made it post quite some time ago who explains smart circles training and he knew everything, no lies, full information.

You got a dud.

He didn't even admit that he doesn't work for AT&T.  That should tell you something about his integrity.

All promotions from AT&T are advertised on their website.  You can go to att.com, see the offers, expand all the arrows to see all the fine print and details.

How the promotions work is the same way they work for all other service providers who offer free or deep discounted phones.   They all charge you for the phone. Bill credits are provided if you meet all of the qualifications. For the last several years they all require that you must have an unlimited data plan and use installments.

Since 2019, the offers from AT&T have been the trade-in offer. To get Bill credits on a new phone you have to trade in an old phone.   If you were not hold your new phones would ship directly from a t and t, and instructed on how to trade your old phone into AT&T to get Bill credits off of your new iPhone 13's, then the Smart Circle rep didnt follow the information and or lied.

Unfortunately for you AT&T promotion is what it is. You have 30 days to trade in your old phones to get Bill credits. If your 30 days is already gone by you're out of luck.   If you are still within the 30 days locate an AT&T corporate store and go in will your purchase material and ask for help.

You should receive a receipt for your trade-in phone. The receipt will show the "book value" not the trade-in Credit Value. FYI, read the promotion first.

Thank you for kindly commenting regarding my complaint.  We will speak with BJ’s as they allow a very large sign advertising “$250 gift card AT&T when you switch and buy a smartphone on a qualifying AT&T installment plan” (plus some small print indicating fees).

Would love to know how it goes.  Unfortunately BJ's subcontracts these people and allows them to use the kiosk in their store. We have not had a lot of positive feedback as far as people getting their problems resolved with BJ's, Sam's, or Costco or Smart Circle. Smart Circle will just blame AT&T despite the fact that it is there core training
