@sandblaster, HBO will also be included to Unlimited Plus plans whether your have the TV service or not.
HBO Credit: AT&T Unlimited Plus subscribers receive access to HBO services & a credit to their bill for the corresponding HBO service. Customers w/wireless service only or DIRECTV NOW receive access to 3 live channels and on-demand content; customers with residential DIRECTV or U-Verse TV service receive access to live channels available for that service and on-demand content. Included channels subject to change. Customers who currently have HBO will see bill credit for HBO service (up to $17.99 for residential DIRECTV; up to $16.00 for U-Verse TV; up to $13.00 for DIRECTV Premier or U-Verse TV U400/U450; DIRECTV NOW customers (with or without previous HBO) see a charge of $0.00). Other customers previously w/o HBO will see charge and corresponding credit for these amounts on their bill. Activation may be required. When you get first credit, you also get a one-time amount equal to credit for each month that passed since meeting offer requirements; this amount is not a taxable discount.

@JDADJDandJD
To locate an actual ATT company store, use the locator map, and make sure it's the teardrop with white center, labeled company store

@ATTTimCS I'm not sure, I think you're following "the ask", but there's no clear solution.
The part where it says "validation may be required", it's DEFINITELY required, but not covered anywhere that I could find.
You have to initiate the account on a PC, then try to get your player (in my case a Roku) up with the "channel" (i.e. HBOGo), and then finalize via the PC.
The problem is, trying to figure out which credentials to use where; sometimes it's looking for your number, and others it wants your account-ID. I did this about 8 weeks back, and it was a hairball, I was typing all kinds of different credentials in on my Roku box (always fun when you're using an on-screen keyboard), and finally, it "just worked", and now I'm not touching it, hmm...
If I'd taken notes, I'd document it into a how-to, but I wasn't, and I'm not about to even try to de-activate it, to go through it again ;-]

@JDADJDandJD, I bet when you went to the "store", you ended up at an "authorized AT&T retailer".
As much as these serve a "function", mostly sales I think, I've found the CS side at these to be virtually non-existent, they won't even give you a new SIM, IME.
Try looking up an actual "AT&T Store", and you should be able to get signed up for the Unlimited (with discount). I'd be surprised if you call in too, if you can't get it that way? If the CS agent seems confused, just ask to talk to a Tier2 person, while a lot of Tier1 people are really good, occasionally you get someone in that tier that doesn't know about a specific knowledge area. Tier2 people have much more breadth, IME.
