AT&T trade-in scam

I was scam by AT&T for my two iPhones trade-in rebate. After waiting months for my rebate credits and spend couple hours with different service department, I only get merely $315 courtesy credit instead of whole $1,600 trade-in credit. AT&T customers service person told me since my two trade-in phones were not processing within 30 days, the $1,600 trade-in rebate was invalid. They can only give me $315 as the best results.

The FACT:

AT&T email me the heads up as

  • You have 30 days after activating your new device to send us your trade-in device.
  • Once you've completed your trade-in and met all promo requirements, you'll receive monthly promo credits over the term of the installment plan within three bill periods.

I ordered my new iPhones from AT&T website on 12/6/2021, received phones between 12/17-12/20, send back two trade-in phones on 12/21/2021.  Due to the delay from both shipper and AT&T, I received confirmation emails from AT&T on 1/28/2022 that two phones are Received & Processed.  I have all the emails from AT&T in my mailbox.

Since I did not receive my rebate for months, I spend couple hours this week calling AT&T trade-in department to find out what’s going wrong. After been transferred between different AT&T service departments, I was told my trade-in rebate was denial since AT&T did not receive and finish the trade-in process within 30 days. To compensate me, AT&T gave me $315 courtesy credit for my two trade-in phones.

I did follow the AT&T heads up and return the phones. However, I was punished by the delay of both AT&T’s operators and shipping providers. Looks like it is a new trade-in scam.

Just kidding! The retention rep lied, and I never got the $1600 credit from AT&T. At best they're incompetent, losing the phones I sent in and claiming I sent iPhone 5 phones. At worst, they're deceptive and stealing phones and passing the cost onto the customers. I am livid right now.

I don't know how many times this has been posted but AT&T never had your phones.

They were never supposed to get your phones.

Phones go from the post office through a courier service, either pitney bowes or newgistics, and go to assurant Mobile in Tennessee.

Assurant Mobile does all the trade-ins, from other service providers and Google.

People keep saying that, but why would I care who physically handles the phones, and who AT&T contracts to do it? How is that at all relevant to the discussion? Either AT&T is incompetent or the third party they have chosen to handle their business is in which case AT&T is still incompetent for hiring them. It doesn't really matter to me. What matters is AT&T or the company that they have chosen to do business on their behalf lost two phones of mine and I'm paying for it. I just got off another 2 hour call with two agents that are apparently the very highest you can go at AT&T and they refuse to do anything to help.
