AT&T took my phone and money

I was doing an upgrade, AT&T dropped the phone at my house with no return label or return box. I called several time to get said label, they finally sent me one (via email, don’t know what took them so long in the first place) then I sent the phone back, they kept the phone and never credited my account. When I called to find out what was going on, they told me the phone was too late and that they were now going to keep the phone and my money. This CAN NOT BE LEGAL!! I will be contacting a lawyer about the situation. This cannot be legal. I have submitted a complaint to the BBB. I will not rest.

The trade in kit always is sent later. How long did you wait to send it in? You have up to 30 days. In any case, someone from AT&T will respond to the BBB complaint and they'll be able to override the process if they choose to, regardless of if you followed procedures.

I was delivered the telephone to my home without a return label, I called for a return label three times before I was finally emailed the label. The day after I received the email with the return label I sent it back. Yes it was late but it was not out of lack of effort on my part. The phone should have been delivered with a way to rerun the old phone.

Quick update. AT&T called me directly after seeing the BBB dispute and credited my account the proper amount!

Just to clear up a couple of things first of all I'm glad you got this resolved to your satisfaction.

1. It's not a return label. If you are engaging in the trade-in promotion and sending in your old phone, it doesn't go to AT&T.  AT&T never sees your phone unless you drop it off at a corporate store and have them mail it in in which case you should be getting a receipt from the corporate store. Trade in phones go to Tennessee to a third party recycler called hyla mobile. Any service provider or manufacturer that's doing a trade-in deal also uses hyla Mobile.

2.   You had 30 days to trade in your phone for this trade-in deal. If you're not getting a trade-in label from AT&T you can request it online and have it sent to you. Or trade your phone in at a corporate store.

If you are doing the trade-in on your own using the link above please make sure you use the code and that your trade-in is going to Tennessee.  Read and follow all directions very carefully. Make sure when you take it to the post office you hand it over the counter and get a receipt which will have your tracking number on it. This is the proof that you mailed your phone to AT&T. Take a picture of it, do not lose it
