Anyone else getting scammed at Target?

Got scammed by an employee off ATT at Target while shopping. Promised free phones and a lower bill than what I was paying. Turns out I was lied too. My new bill is $100 more than what it was.

Perhaps you were scammed but it wasn’t by an ATT employee. Those reps at Target do not work for ATT. They are either Target employees or work for a third party. Your first bill being $100 higher doesn’t mean you’ve been scammed either. You have one time activation fees plus the bill is for more than one month of service plus your phone credits and any discounts haven’t started yet.

The people manning AT&T kiosks inside of a retail store (Target, Sam's, BJs, etc.) are not AT&T employees.  They work for a third party.

My first bill was $289 higher which I expected.  Second bill $135 higher. My 3rd bill which I was told would be free was $235. I was told by ATT that $235 would be what I pay every month from here on out. I know it was s third party but they obviously still working for ATT because they are taking my money. They are crooked thieves and I will make sure my family and friends won't do business with them.

Your first bill would include more than one month service plus activation fees on each device and would still include all installments. Bill credits uninstallments take at least three bill cycles and are determined by when you traded in your old devices.  You had 30 days to trade in your old phones, if you took the full 30 days to trade in your phones they likely have not been processed and another bill cycle would be necessary.  Phone's purchased and trade in December should see credits by March.

Second bill $135 higher.

So that must include four or five new phones?

My 3rd bill which I was told would be free was $235. I was told by ATT that $235 would be what I pay every month from here on out.

$235 total doesn't tell us anything other than that's what your bill is.

That $235 is itemized on your bill as service on any combination of the three available plans, taxes, and may include next up $6 fee, may include insurance which is $45 for a group insurance. But we don't know because you didn't tell us. And it makes me think maybe you don't know either because you have not read the bill.

And you haven't mentioned auto pay and paperless billing. If you have 4 lines and are not enrolled in $10 per phone line auto pay and paperless billing by choice you are cheating yourself out of 40 bucks a month.

More information might explain why your bill is what it is. It might be so informative that you don't even need to ask here. I would encourage you to read the bill and if you still don't understand it you can ask here or ask AT&T directly

If you do not wish to have insurance or the early upgrade fee those can both be removed

I've talked to 3 people already at AT&T.  All 3 said nothing they can do.

So they are saying that based on what is on your bill, that your bill is correct. But that doesn't explain what is on your bill compared to your 'lower' quote.

I hope you talk to Carlton.  But so far I'm not seeing any indication that you are helping yourself.

If you're going to come to a community forum you have to be a little more open on what you were told and what your expectation was and then what your result was. You haven't done any of that.

Hopefully Carlton will manage to eke a little more information out of you to get some idea of why your bill is not what you expected it to be

Yes, can barely enjoy the electronic section of target without these reps hounding you. AT&T needs to be held accountable for these deceptive practices of their third party affiliates because they don’t even want to help clear up account issues caused by their third party reps.

@LovelyLachelle

That's my favorite section of Target. And unless I hang around the cell phones no one bothers me. So stop hanging around the cell phones

Yes I got this scam too. Last year, a girl approached me at Target and convinced me to sign a contract with ATT where I would trade in old phones for new ones for my family, for free, with a promise of lower monthly bills and free international charges due to my parents' upcoming travel. However, my next bill was nearly $600, and from the second month onwards, I consistently received bills ranging from $140 to $250 more than the promised amount.

I reached out to them multiple times, and each time they apologized and made promises that the bills would be corrected after three billing cycles. Unfortunately, their promises were not fulfilled. I have made around 30 calls over a span of more than six months, but they continue to provide fake apologies and promises, requesting access to my ATT account, and despite my efforts, my bills still remain approximately $150 higher than what I was paying prior to entering this agreement.

It seems like their tactic is to promise, gain clients, take their money, and when clients call with concerns, they apologize and make empty promises, repeating the cycle until clients become exhausted and give up. I feel deceived because I trusted AT&T and Target in this matter.
