30$ Upgrade Fee

Hello, I recently upgraded to an iPhone 12, and on my AT&T bill, it charged me a 30$ upgrade fee. A worker who was helping me buy the phone told me that if I saw a 30$ upgrade fee on my bill, I could talk to AT&T to get it refunded and canceled.

Just to keep the expectations realistic, The fee is a valid fee,  AT&T may not remove it just because you ask. If you are employed by an employer who has a discount program with AT&T it may or may not reduce your service cost, but it might waive upgrade fees. .

The upgrade fee is a valid fee when upgrading. It is listed in the terms of service.

@Stephanie228 Hello, I recently solved my problem by calling AT&T's customer support number ( 800.331.0500 ). I told them that an apple representative assured me that the 30$ upgrade fee charge would be waived and after about 5 minutes on the phone with them, they told me that the fee would be canceled from my bill. Hope this works for you. Thanks.

@wooly28478 Please come back and let us know if the fee actually does get waived. We’ve seen many posts from customers who have been told the fee would be waived by customer support only to find it isn’t.

@Harsh12

Read the thread.  It's a valid (albeit annoying) fee.  If you are not okay with the upgrade fee, purchase your phone at full cost from someplace like Best Buy, Apple, or Samsung. It is the cost of having the carrier Finance your device for you

Why call it an upgrade fee if there are no changes to the ATT service? you are just moving to a new phone, moving the sim card into it - akin to replacing a damaged phone.

If you purchase your phone and do not include AT&T in the transaction there is no upgrade fee, which is even more akin to using insurance to replace a lost or damaged phone.

Purchasing a phone through AT&T is the trigger that you are "upgrading" and the fee is charged.

But you are still charged once you put in your 'existing' ATT sim into the new phone.

Not if you bought it from a 3rd party.
